I use to see Broadway plays 6 to 10 times a year. The prices for tickets have shy rocketed, at $150 a ticket I rarely go anymore. I miss seeing live plays, so when i got a email from a local theater company I opened it. County Players in Wappinger Falls is preforming Of Mice and Men at $17 for orchestra seats I am treating 2 friends!!! The theater is about 20 minutes from country house, got to love local talent .

We've got a historic restored theater in my hometown that plays old classic movies, live local music and entertainment and plays by our county acting troupe. It was closed for a couple of decades before being renovated a couple years ago. I remember going to see ET and Labyrinth there when I was a little kid. :) A lot of the shows and special events they host now are free to attend too.

I have two opportunities in Fayetteville Arkansas. An Art Center offers five touring Broadway plays a year. Depending on your seats and which nights you select you can get a subscription to all five for between $150 to $350, $30 to $70 bucks a play. These are not Broadway shows, they are a touring company that puts on the Broadway shows.

Then there is a black box theater that has a five play subscription for between $92 to $174 for all plays, depending on the nights you choose. This is not local talent except for some minor roles.

I've seen a few of the Broadway plays but I've had a subscription to that black box theater for a few years.

Many decades ago I lived in London England for a year. I'm still kicking myself because I only went to see five plays. I should have seen many more, they were great. My first one was Rocky Horror Show. Nunsense was a lot of fun. I can't remember what the other three were.

We try to go to the local plays when they are performing something we want to see. Our local theaters are Newberry Opera House, and Abbieville Opera House. The tickets weren't that high either. Around 50$ per person.

Speaking of local theaters / plays ... as you may know my wife is a business auditor for the IRS..... recently she audited a husband and wife team's businesses. He had a masters degree in music/ play writing and is a High School music teacher . He runs 3 summer music camps, each for 2 weeks and charges each student $180. He then offers concerts and plays to the public. He writes all of the music and plays using local more well known talent as actors and he pays them quite well and his students perform music for free . What he charges for tickets to the public does not even cover rent of the building that he rents. He wines and dines everyone in sight that far exceeds his income for his efforts. On his tax returns for the last 3 years , he takes every deduction that he could think of but DOES NOT meet any logic to the rules of the tax code. He does not provide any records, receits or proof of payment, just his word. His wife is a college English professor and a pubished book writer of 5 books. Every year they take 2-6 week vacations to England, Spain, Germany, Brazil, Chile and write off ALL expenses for their trips to these countries as necessary expenses for research for their businesses. Her book royalties for the past 4 years equal to around $100 / year. Sorry, but the tax rules do not allow such deductions. Neather husband or wife could supply any proof of payment of their business activities, nor what they researched or with who for their businesses as expenses . NO BUSINESS RECORDS WHATSOEVER . Activities more like hobbies rather than business but by claiming deductions, the public covers their vacations and other expenses by avoiding income taxes on their day jobs. Their tax bill for the previous 3 years was just under $50,000. Good real life role models for our kids , don't you think ? :idunno

Wow last night was torture !!! Not only was the acting bad, but a few times they forgot their lines. If we weren't sitting in 2 row would have left. Good news found a great Mexican restaurant after show .
