Lower leaves yellow on newly planted tomatoes

The bottom 2 leaves on my plants do that. I always pull the lower leaves off even if they are healthy. This way they don't get wet when I water and thus reducing my chances of having any problems.

Fair warning, we got TONS of rain and my garden flooded. All the bottoms of my tomatoes leaves turned yellow. So I plucked a bunch on Tuesday. Yesterday I went out after yet another storm with winds and down pours. My tomatoes all have early blight. (No all of them just one group where it flooded.)

So I had to spray them with some copper fugalicide. Boooo....

I'm not spraying the ones planted in the raised beds as they are fine, and more then 20 feet from these, so I think we're good. Yellowing was the first sign that the rain was being destructive.

Thanks for this tread. I came here today to ask this very question.

I am disgusted!! All 12 of my plants have turned yellow and appear to have blight. I am really not happy. What a waste of money. I purposely purchased these at a really nice nursery that has good stock to ensure good hardy plants. :( Well...not so much!!!

And yes, Chickies Momma ducks would be loving this!

Best wishes to the rest of you with your maters. :)

Oh, Stubbornhill- what a disappointment! It is my understanding that blight becomes airborne- and that if your neighbors get it, you will get it, regardless of where your plants came from...

I have heard the same thing lesa. I really don't know what you could possibly do to prevent it? The dissapointing part is, I am pretty sure that I must have purchased the plants with it. Our neighbors are far, far away. (not really sure how far this can travel through the air) Oh well. I will just have to support a local farmer and buy some for sauce if I really want some.

On the brighter side...now I have a very large section of garden that I can use for something else. :P Think, think, think....

Stubborn, is it too late to find plants elsewhere and start all over? Just wondering if you have time to try again.

How does a person know if thier tomatoes have blight?
great question i was going to ask the same thing! the tops look great but the bottoms look terrible! I have tomatoes on the vine and some of them are getting big
However, the yellow leaves with brown spots is making me worry!!

Mary, I probably could because realistically our growing season just started. But with this being airborne, I am afraid that the blight spors are already hanging around my yard and that new plants would just become infected. I don't know this to be a fact, just what I am thinking.

Kassaundra and honeycomb, the lower leaves turned all yellow with black spots on them. Looks like mold kind of. Then the yellow and spots went all the way to the top of the plant. I suspect if I left them, they will turn brown. Not one stitch of green on them now. They were seriously only about 10 inches tall, so it didn't take long.
