That bunch of kale looks so lonely!

;) Acorn squash -- don't those shoppers recognize all the calories there that could be critical in keeping them warm?

Frigid here with 37mph wind gusts and midday temperature of 16°f. Interstate is closed near the Columbia River because of blowing snow so we will all be driving through Bob's neighborhood to reach Seattle.

This morning... According to my steel tape measure .... we had the humungous snowmageden amount of a whapping 1 INCH of snow as measured in the middle of our cul de sac. The small town up the foothill 10 miles away had 6" of snow. local traffic is moving along as normal. Snow is melting fast. We then had an alert from the Weather Service that the next snow wave will start at 4 PM and 4" is possible by 11 PM. We are waiting with baited breath. :caf

Since Al Gore has now been vindicated and we are now entering the next ice age...I hear tell that the Eskimos build IGLOOS out of snow blocks and have managed to survive for thousands of years in the Arctic region of our planet. Having this as a clue, I as well as the rest of the locals will have to copy this survival tactic.

I would send disaster aid, but by the time it got there, the disaster would be over. LOL
Bay... you said that you have freezer full of pork. If you could spare a chop or two or a ham, I could bbq when spring arrives here next week to stave off starvation from the previous week. :drool :drool ;)

Momma Mia!

It wasn't a very good day for a 160 mile round trip out into the Palouse Hills, yesterday. Early morning started out just fine. The plows had done their work of removing the drifts that the 35+ mph winds had built on Saturday. The single digitS' temperatures were okay. Then, it began to snow and ice built up on the windshield wipers.

A 60mph drive during half the drive south early was down to 20mph driving when whiteout conditions prevailed at times heading back later. We were behind a long line of cars that completely disappeared whenever a truck passed in the opposite direction. Taillights covered with snow.

The schools in the district are closed this morning. Probably a strike by bus drivers, you know how they are ... But, it could be the kids. The state highway we took for a little ways north (couldn't stay on it, it was already closed) is now closed to the home of Washington State University. There, classes are 2 hours late this morning! I figure that the college kids just need time to take pictures with their phones to send to each other once there's some daylight.

Oh, the interstate 90 route over the Cascades opened again sometime yesterday afternoon. That should take some traffic pressure off Bob's neighborhood.

Last evening sparse snow flakes started to fall lazily. Several hours later there was a light dusting ... then horrors of horrors... our satalite dish lost the TV signal.:ep I had to climb up my ladder and sweep away the light dusting of snow from the TV dish on our roof and the tragedy was finally averted. :) We then had a glass of wine and onion rings before bed time so that I could warm up from the deadly cold temperature of 28* F. :drool AT 5 AM this morning, there might have been about a quarter of an inch of snow on the ground with a very light rain drizzle. Then the TV news reported that our schools are closed for the day as about half of the kids in this district live in the mountains surrounding this small town and their roads are covered in snow up to 4" and black ice underneath the snow so the school buses can't operate there safely. The schools will have to make up for these closed school days this summer and the teachers are always upset ( like every other past years ) by this type of severe weather condition as it always interferes with their summer vacation plans. Last year Oregon resumed using salt and deicers for it's major roads after years of using only sand and traffic casualties have decreased dramatically. However, on the TV interview , the environmentalists are upset as this practice is "harmful to the environment" . This morning, I drove my wife to the park and ride at 5: 15 to Vancouver, Wa. so that she could take the bus to work in Portland, Ore.. Very little to NO snow on the ground along SR 503 as well as I 5. The many immortal crazy drivers were resuming their up to 70 - 80 ++ mph driving habits :he so this is extremely dangerous to our life and limb to even attempt to drive to the grocery stores to restock our empty refrigerator, wine cellar and cupboard. When is the governor going to issue a state of emergency so that the National Guard could direct traffic , scrape bodies and car parts off the roads , pick up the overflowing garbage cans next to our roads as the garbage trucks couldn't possibly pick up the garbage for the last week due to severe weather conditions, and we can apply for financial aid ? Tragic I tell you !
