Had SNOW here yesterday that stayed on the ground until the sun hit it this morning. My radish, lettuce and spinach sprouts look to be doing ok :rose I'm making myself a note to NEVER no matter how nice the weather is to plant anything in April. I MUST wait till May :tools We were in the 40's today. Send some of those 60's up her Jared77. PLEASE

I would but today we never got above 54. Next few days are like that as well. I keep hoping the temps will creep up but I'm not holding my breath.

Cold here as well.....I've had 16 lambs born since Monday...Thank God they were born with sweaters on!!!! My Dahlia tubers are sprouting in the basement....over one ton of tubers down there waiting for warm weather. My Pear blossoms are in full tilt right now....I hope the cold has not bothered my Lilacs too much.... I hope May is warmer than April....:/ Later, Rusty

That's quite a few lambs. Love the saying "born with sweaters" I was surprised to see that my rosebush had made it :rose I believe I've seen a picture somewhere of all your dahlia's. Here or on BYC They ARE beautiful.

It's 40 outside right now but earlier it was 53! The next couple nights they predict below normal temps, around 25 I bought my seed onions and taters today, can't wait to get them in the ground. Last year they both turned out wonderful and I should of planted more. Hopeing I have enough this time...space too!

I know! I thought we were past these frosty nights but thats what I get for thinking.

I thought I'd share my first time planting potatoes. I planted potatoes last year and I made the BIG mistake of planting a 50ft row of of them in one planting. That was a chore that's for sure. Dug what I felt like was a never ending trench it just kept going and going. I had a BIG crop of potatoes. I had roughly a 25' row of red skins and a 25' row of russets and a handful of purple ones. I didn't think far enough ahead to plan for when the crop matured and suddenly I had a shopping bags FULL of potatoes that needed to be dealt with. So I started canning some of them, and ran out of quart sized jars. I left them outside because they still had to be rinsed. WELL......we got an early frost and suddenly my hard earned potatoes got soft. Needless to say I was NOT happy with myself.

The ones I canned got VERY soft and turned to mush. It was not a very good first potato experience. Ill do them again but I definately learned a few things.

The potatoes were an after thought when I found some at the nursery. Didn't plan that one through well enough. This year I'm doing onions instead and I am definately staggering them! LOL

I also made the mistake of placing them in the main garden too. I didn't think how much hilling I had to do with them. I will do them again soon, I enjoyed the ones I had they were a great $ saver. I just know that next time they'll go in a seperate bed so I can focus just on them.

I start digging around in the taters once they are big enough to throw in whole into a boiled dinner or such. DH likes em small and sliced to be fried so we are always digging the taters up. Did I make sense??????

Finally got around to fencing in most of the garden. Little bit more and I'm done. Between the Jacks(my dogs) wild turkeys, chickens escaping, and taking the cows out back, rabbits, ect I had to fence it in this year. To much work to let something eat it or trample it.

HI again. I dropped out for a while to deal with all the life crap that this month has thrown at me.

Yesterday i managed to plant some more snow peas and finally some lettuce. Lots of my other snow peas are about 2 inches tall but seem to have stalled from lack of rain and the super cold night temps. I'm hoping this coming week means a change for the better.

I've also dug three holes for my blueberry bushes that came the other day. They must have been in shipping for a week because the leaves are very yellow. Been trying to keep them in diffuse light outside and covering them up at night due to the freezing temps.

I like the idea of planting something in my friend's memory. Thanks for the idea. Now I have to think of something appropriate for a curmudgeon.

Yesterday sure was a nice one. I planted more lettuce, spinach and got my taters in :weight

I have alot of huckleberries around here. They are so gooooood! I'm suprised Swampducks that you don't. Hope your blueberry bushes get up to par.

Rain in the forcast for the next three days....right now it looks like it could downpour any minute.

Just checking in. Wow no one has been on here for awhile. Are we all busy getting the gardens in ? :tools I have most of my plants out under milk jugs to protect them from frost. I'll be buying some tomato plants as the ones that I started from seed will be no way large enough to produce any fruit this season. I've started cukes three times The first two times the seeds were some I ordered off line. Must of been bad Bought some from the local store this time...keeping my fingers crossed. Happy planting :watering
