I'm 20 miles North of the Twin Cities ... in a swamp!

Plant hardiness maps put me in zone 4, arbor day climate rating is 4-5.
I grow a lot of zone 5 rated plants so I may have a microclimate going on... or plant breeders are being more cautious ...

I am so jealous! I wish I could grow zone 5 plants, but sometimes even zone 4 don't survive here.

Hi Fellow Minnesotans: I'm in Coon Rapids right on the Andover border.

Yes, we have a short growing season, but we do VERY well. I sure can't speak for the others, but I grow GORGEOUS vegetables most of which I freeze for winter use.

This is what I'm growing this year: corn, tomatoes, green peppers, banana peppers, cucumbers, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cauliflower, turnips, whole yellow onions, Swiss chard, bok choi, pole green beans, pole lima beans, bush cannellini beans, escarole, sugar-pie pumpkins, Blue ballet hubbard squash, Honey Bear acorn squash, butternut squash, yellow summer squash, zucchini, 2 varieties of leaf lettuce, Boston lettuce (buttercrunch), spinach, and cantaloupe! I've grown potatoes in the past; but, since they're relatively cheap in the stores, I'm not bothering now.

Liberty... I have family in Andover. Wow you must have a huge garden/farm!
I'm not quite that ambitious, but we can, freeze, and jam quite a bounty.
Salsa and raspberry jam were a hit for holiday gifts last year, we over did a bit.

Catalina ... LOVE your blog! I think we have about the same growing season tho ... huh?
I'm a little protected with lots of trees and very wet ground ... maybe ... ??

Boggybranch ... our growing season is usually 120 - 150 days, give or take a few weeks ...
Plenty of time to grow a tomato ... I do like the thought of some Fall crops tho ... I can dream ...
