Mint flowers attract FLIES!

Husband commented on the flies today, he almost ripped them up. :(
Told him I won't be letting them flower anymore and he left them alone.

Never had flies on my mint. I have a bunch of different types of mint in pots, they are flowering now, no flies. It does seem odd, can you get a photo?

Want to see if I can get seeds from it. Afterwards, the plant is being cut to the ground, dried and my mother is buying it.

Not sure about mint seeds... mine spreads by roots. Can't remember noticing any seeds. Will have to keep an eye on mine.

Best I can find says that the flies are attracted to the sweet smelling nectar from the flowers. It's odd I haven't had any problems with flies around my mints.
