Every city, county, and state are going to collect money. That might be property tax, income tax, sales taxes, sin taxes, entertainment taxes, luxury taxes, licenses, fees, or maybe royalty from oil or gas or mining. Some I can think of make a lot of their money off of traffic tickets, the ones known as speed traps. Some states have a homestead exemption or maybe give a break to older people. Some states have lotteries. Property taxes are a traditional way to fund the school system but some places do it differently. Looking at property taxes in isolation is like buying a car just by looking at the steering wheel. You need to look at the whole system. If you don't want to pay many taxes, move to a place that has a lot of oil and gas production. And don't expect thee same low taxes if the city, county, or state don't have a lot of outside income like that. Some politicians are real good at spreading that kind of deceit.

But back to the walk-in pantries. I've lived in houses with them and without them. If I ever had to build a house, a walk-in pantry would be a requirement. That's non-negotiable.

There is also a give and take with property taxes. Pay low taxes and you might not see a law officer drive by for days at a time; might have long waits for snow removal; might have a small school with few of the advantages of bigger more expensive to run schools, or you might have one large industry that's funding most of the local expenses as a cost of doing business.

A nuclear power plant some distance from here was paying for most of its County's bills through its taxes. Great schools in that district and low property taxes for homeowners.
