I havent read this post, I went through the very same thing! My mother fell during the night damaged her knee, she didnt call for my help too But my dog alerted me by acting strange like he was worried, My mother had her surgery and stayed in nursing home for a while. I ask the nursing home if we can bring my mothers dog Waggles a yorkie. They say as long he doesnt bark he can come. He was the biggest hit there! All the people were so happy to see him. The plus side of it it helps bring my mothers blood pressure down! My mother passed away two years ago and I missed her..

Desertlady, thanks for sharing. I am glad you were able to take your dog to see your mother in the nursing home. It brightened people up when they could pet and talk to my dog. My mother loved and hugged on my dog when I took her to the nursing home to see my mother. I think it would be awful to be in a place with no animals.

Today Mom took her first car ride. We went to the post office and I got her bucket full of junk mail. Then we went and delivered 2 dozen eggs and came home. Just that little trip made mom happy. We went through her mail--what takes her days to do, I ripped through in about 20 minutes. She really does read all that crap before she trash cans it.

And isn't it awful all the junk they send to seniors, trying to get their money? Some goon put down on my credit report that I was born in 1933 (and the credit bureau hasn't fixed it, in spite of me filling out all their stupid paperwork and sending copies of every doc with my name on it that I have. :rant ) But anyhow, I think it's shameless how they do them, pressuring them to buy this or sign up for that. Beltone thinks that I should be deaf by now, but I'm sure that I would have arthritis in my hands if I opened every piece of junk mail they send me. :/

Glad to hear your mama got to get out and stretch her legs for a bit. I bet the fresh air and sunshine really did her some good.

Hey, Bay... I saw this article and thought of how much your mom enjoyed her furry friend visiting her in the hospital. Scientific proof that therapy dogs really do make you feel better! :happy_flower

Great article Journey! It really brightened Mom up when I took Polly to see her. And the Awwww....... as Polly walked through the nursing home were heart tugging. I stopped and let anybody that wanted to pet Polly love on her for as long as they wanted.

Mom got dressed this morning-yesterday and the day before she stayed in her gown-and we went to the post office. We made the mail run and that makes her happy. Her appetite is half what it was before she fell and fractured her back. I can't convince her to eat more, she takes a bite or two and is done. :he If she doesn't start eating more, she will not gain strength. I try to tempt her with everything I can, but she just doesn't like anything. Grrr.....

Will she drink Ensure?
I have Boost for her, can get maybe 1 bottle down her a day, sometimes only half and these are little bottles. I beat my head up against the wall, not much seems to work. I tell her if she doesn't eat, then she will wind up back in the hospital then she gets mad at me. Gheesh.

Is your mom taking pain meds? Many of those will cause a lack of appetite (as well as constipation) and either may be part of the reason she's not eating. Not sure what you can do about it, other than be understanding.

Hopefully, your mother will continue to make steady, if slow, progress. Health improvements are harder to manage as we age and harder to assess. You both are in my prayers.
