here is the rose bush today.

450

i pruned it earlier.just long skinny sprigs came out

also a white fungus and sprayed it with a natural solution last week and pruned it again because most of it had the fungus on the new growth

also, nothing blooming on the 2 little plants so they must be off of the original plant.

why does the mother plant have some big leaves and some smaller ones.the flowers on the smaller sections are a darker color and are shaped different.

Rabbit is wonderful manure but very strong-be careful with the rose bush. A lovely, special find.

i have never had a rose bush before and know nothing about them.
here is the story-

we just moved into my MIL old farm house.we put a new roof on it 2 yrs ago and tore off all the old plywood and tossed it below.cleaned it all up and just finished the remodeling inside.this august i was cleaning out all the overgrowth and cutting down the old shrubbery up against the house.well, i came across this old rose bush.i knew that because of the thorn i grabbed.all that time with the roof i never noticed it.it was completely covered by brush.i cleaned it all out and saw that it was 3 little bushes.i think they are connected because one is bigger and they are close.i found the rusted wire tag still on it in the ground and it said hybrid tea rose"pink peace".so i have decided to try and help it and maybe plant some more next year.the really interesting thing is that i found out my MIL planted those roses in 1965-70 and no one has lived in the house since 1985.that whole area had roses but this is the only one left.

so that little rose has had no care for at least 25 years-how is that?
i keep thinking how aweful i will feel if it dies now that i start trying to care for it becuase obviously it doesn't need help.
any tips for them?-i am looking to buy a good book.
it had a very small bloom in october and then 2 big ones last month.

can't wait till spring.

they were cut completely down and then a week later i saw new green growth.each plant had one tall skinny stem that grew.i had to stake it up to hold the blooms up.
i hit the root of the one in the middle and it started to wilt but it has recovered completely and growing nicely.

does it look like the 3 plants are the same.one root ball is alot bigger than the other 2

Ha, ha--Had to laugh!!! DH told me that when he was little (1950's) the woman with roses would grab the "horse pucky" from the street from the horse that pulled the milk wagon, for their roses, and they'd apply it fresh. I periodically cover the roots of mine with it, and they love it.
IF you're worried, buy a clearance mini-rose and try it with THAT one first. Your roses look marvelous! Do you know how to cut the stems and propogate them? I've studied up on it but not tried it yet. People that do are really happy that they have. It's obvious that you have heirloom roses. They are very hardy, and it would be nice to produce some more plants. And, it would nice to identify what strains of roses they are.

actually i never found any rabbit poo,so i did use our horse manure.we use it in the veggie garden so why not.

no,i don't know how to propogate them.

as far as strains, the big root ball still had the rusted wire tag on it underground and it said "pink peace" rose if that helps any

I'm sure that some wire garden fencing would work, and it wouldn't block the sunlight. I think that we all have a little bit of Kate Maberly (the heroine) from "The Secret Garden" in us, and we inherently know just what our plants need. :throw
Regarding the type of rose, I just thought that YOU would like to know their names. :D
Btw, what kind of horse(s) do you have? My current herd is (2) KMH's and one (unregistered, rescue) QH.
