Mine would have to be cowpeas. Primarily because they produce a lot are are vigorous growers for me, I do like the diversity in seed-coat patterns (so some would be useful for decorative purposes). Other than they they mainly taste like soup beans, generally speaking.

Has to be kohlrabi. I saw the seeds on the .10 cent shelf and said what the heck. I didn't even know what it was, but now I plant it every year. I usually pick one, peel it and eat it like an apple.

I love than stuff but haven't grown it yet. We turn them into french fries, grill them, eat them raw, etc. I do plan on trying it for fall this year though. Saw them on sale on Native Seeds and bought nearly 10 packets of them (about 160 seeds per packet). They're a purple variety!

I don't think I have seen the purple varieties. I just hit the 10 cent rack and grab a pack. I think the variety is early Vienna. I have also grown kosak ?sp?. I didn't like that variety as well. It was a little tougher and not as flavorful as the Vienna.

I think that this variety is just the purple version of Vienna. Actually I think that I've only ever heard of three kohlrabi varieties - the two Vienna's and that "Giant Kossak" that you tried (think that's the name/spelling, going off of memory). I supposse that bigger does not equal better when it comes to Kossak kohlrabi.

Black-eyed peas are gooood! I really should try growing them again ... maybe if one is touted as especially for the north.

French fried kohlrabi? I don't think that would have occurred to me!

"Winner" was the nicest kohlrabi that I've grown.

Kohlrabi is on my wishlist too. I've never tried it. I'll look for those you guys have recommended.

Sweet potatoes were a winner for me too. Never imagined they could be so easy to grow. A gardening friend I go to church with actually convinced me to give them a go. I did pretty well curing them too. I still have a bunch of good tubers and if they hold out another month or so, I can start slips off of some! :ya

@baymule , Oh boy, you are going to have so much FUN! We're all excited to see what you decide to plant. Definitely invest in those fruit trees right away. I keep having to remind my DH that I'm NOT MOVING anytime soon, as I'm waiting on the trees I planted to bear. I didn't have much money freed up to get them all at once when we moved here 8 years ago, being that we were younger and just starting out. I could have had pears, etc. by now.

About those fruit trees - Dad was always so reluctant to plant and maybe with good reason since he was always so willing to move.

After I planted a half dozen fruit trees, I moved ... and, moved those trees to his backyard. They were all dwarves and slowly aged and were taken out. Most produced robustly! One apple was still there, when the home was sold, four decades after Mom & Dad moved there!

@TheSeedObsesser , I looked at that Victory Seed page! Real possibilities of ordering and I will search through their other offerings, soon. I also want to look through Prairie Garden Seed again with their many, many varieties to see what "southern peas" that Canadian outfit may have :).

I saw a veggie in the 2014 Good Seeds catalog called "celtus" I think. Kind of a cross between celery and lettuce. Anyone tried it?
I believe kohlrabi will be in my garden this year, now that my memory has been jogged about it. It's one of those veggies I tend to forget about, but I do like it.

I've grown celtuce.

It was interesting. Oh dear! I may be discouraging So Lucky, again ... ummm, if you aren't already, you need to get into stir-fry, @so lucky ! This would be a good ingredient :).
