It looks like Stanley is skating by without that frost or snow.

Here, the nearest airport had 1.33 inches of rain over the last 48 hours. That's a big deal for this part of the world.

It only warmed to 48 yesterday afternoon. There were quite a few records set for "coolest high" around for that date but that 48 wasn't one of them. Big changes in temperatures are ahead and I'm sure looking forward to them!

Saturday, the day started out with thunder and lightning and brief downpours! That continued all day. It never reached 70f until 4pm and we had 50% humidity right thru a blue sky afternoon. Interesting for here but, short of being hit by a lightening bolt, nothing much missed.

What Thistle' didn't miss is -- right now, today. In fact, at this minute -- it is 99!

Good Heavens, Hot Weather, quick!

Steve
the Dutch Gardens fall catalog came today! I'd take it out in the sunlight to look at it but . . .

What crazy weather! 99 degrees? Do you have AC in your house, Steve? It has been unseasonably cool and damp here. Our local newspaper said this past June was the wettest one on record. Probably last June was one of the driest and hottest.

I have an air conditioner that goes in the living room window, So Lucky. I carried it up from the basement but didn't put it in until the past weekend.

It does a real good job for a little thing, helped along with a little corner fan here in the south window, it's only 79 and I'm as far away from the living room as I can get :p. Oh, the south window is shaded by a tree and the house roof at this time of year .

I was outdoors until the temp went above 90. That's about all I can take with such a sudden change. I do like hot weather, tho'. It doesn't mean I don't have problems but I feel so much more . . . fluid, ummm . . . Oh, I know! I was saying a few months ago that the opposite of lithe (supple) ;) is lithic (of or relating to rock). Well, I don't suppose I can say I feel lithe but it's pleasant not to feel so lithic .

Edited: Oh gee, I realized that I've got my days of the week wrong again! Wednesday/Saturday. Well yes, it is Monday! Edited that earlier post, too!

Yeah, it's hot for us northern folk. But like Heather said, it won't last all summer like it will for a lot of you.

Right now my living room has cooled down to a pleasant 83 . It did get to 85 around 4:00. No a/c here, but there are fans in every window and in front of the sliding glass door. We keep them going all night then close the house up before sunrise and it stays cool until about 3 when the sun is hitting the big south window and the slider.

I know I open the house up too soon and the hot air comes pouring in, but I can only take so much of a closed house. Makes me feel a little claustrophobic.

That's right. Thistle', you have that "San Diego experience" that Hoodat talks about. Wasn't it San Diego?

The weather is so different in different corners of this country. I was "blaming" the Midwest for their high heat last year. Yeah, my claim was that it was keeping things real cool in Pacific Northwest because the storms didn't have anywhere to go . . . This year, there's all that Midwest rain. Also, rain along the East Coast and I was watching a forecast meteorologist in North Carolina yesterday explain the "competing" weather systems that has resulted in the stalled pattern there.

I hope that the Southwest has some reasonable monsoon activity soon and that it translates into a little fire protection. It would also be great if our cool windy spring isn't followed by a hot windy summer. So much to be thankful for when things don't go too far from normal and what "normal" represents for each of us.

Yes, we actually lived about 30 miles east of there in the foothills. Funny, our elevation was 2400' there, and it's 2480' here.
That's about the only similarity tho'!

We didn't have a/c there either, but around 3:00 you would start to get the offshore airflow from the west and things would usually begin to cool down. That was a mental adjustment for me when we moved here. The temp keeps rising until after 5.
