I just met the new pup. Seems lovely-I don't think it will be too big, maybe 30 lbs. My 10 year old grandson is taking real good care of him, 24 hours now.Ha ha. My daughter was not a dog lover because of neighbors with loose mean dogs when she was little. The kids and husband have been begging for a long time. It took her a lot of cute puppy pictures to make her come around. She works from home most days, so everyone will be at work, school, or gram's house. This dog will end up her dog I bet.The dog slept with the 3 boys last night on the floor of one of their bedrooms. A pig pile of boys and pup. The oldest said every time he moved away the pup cuddled closer waking him up. Seems like a good match.

Cat puppy should be sleeping in crate. Look up crate training puppies
I KNOW!!! They are going to get one roads are terrible. They were going to use mine until they saw how big it is. We got a Dal for my daughter's 12th birthday. She cried all the way home for her Momma. My daughter thought we should return her because she missed her Mommy. Allison slept next to the crate in the mudroom for a couple of nights touching the pup through the crate so she wouldn't cry. It worked like a charm. She was a great dog.

The oldest boy is 10 and getting to be the weird age. I am usually not allowed to hug him but it' OK once in a while. I ell him I want to hug him but respect his wishes. I worry that with the other 2 boys climbing all over me he will feel rejected. And yes I know that makes no sense but, he is a kid at the beginning of weird. He was so proud of the puppy and is doing all the work. (34 hours of ownership.) He keeps telling his parents, "I can't thank you enough for this puppy." I think a pet is great for most every human.

I have nothing against using a crate. I've seen them work really well. It's just that I've never used one. I'm well house-trained so they don't have a chance to use the house and have never had a problem with puppies. Of course, I've always gotten puppies during the summer when I'm home to work with them.

They always have a "cubby" space that is theirs both in the main house and in my bedroom just no gate.
