A shot across the bow; this afternoon while riding the mower around. The rain has stopped and things are perking up! They are telling us the rainy period is over and temps will be more normal.
The irony is that in 2 more weeks we go into a period where we can have rain pretty regular until it snows
We’re being optimistic!!
At this rate; we’ll eat well (again) this winter. The only thing that was a flop is the pumpkins which are marginal for us anyway but on a year like we’re having im tickled pink that all the rest is doing as well as it is, some even excelling over previous years!
Thank you Lord!
p.s all 8 of those tomato's came off that Celebrity in the greenhouse!
Today i spent some time at the fishing hole and had a young couple with me who are new to this game. The primary goal for both of us is the red salmon, the secondary goal being to “refresh” the fish hydroslate drum. There were far too many people but we both got a good start on our limit of 35 fish AND the carcassas, guts etc are beginning the fermenting process as we speak.
That is fabulous, i’ll be happy about And interested in any future progress reports! My research said it took several years for these plants to produce “the active ingredient” which is contained in the root ball. Mine are coming along nicely too, however they are a wee bit behind you! My intention is to treat them exceptionally well and see if i can reduce the long wait?
That’s really cool that we can send seeds literally half way around the world and enjoy back and forth conversation along the way! Thanks for giving them a try.
Mike
One more day and we’ll have this years fish! The young couple did real well today too. This group was especially nice, even surpassing any Copper River salmon we've caught previously. Some were 3 meal fish! And both of our emulsion drums are as full as we need for next year!
Well, now that Salmon dipping is behind me i’m looking forward to some pleasant days of vine-dressing!
We’ve kinda got a bottleneck going right now with Peas, Beans and Squash to blanch and freeze; Tomato’s to sauce, Berries to freeze And Another half day of Salmon canning! Thank you Lord.
It looks like I’ll be shredding cabbage for Kraut first of the week! These two weigh roughly 25lb and will probably fill the crock by them selves. The remainder will go to a good home. I'm glad the cukes are so prolific because this group got a little bigger than we like for pickles.
So, what can a person say about Chard? Personally, i believe it’s the most beautiful of the produce and some of those leaves are real trophy’s. Many will reach 3ft. Long!
This is my first year saving Parsnip seed and it looks like this pair are going to provide all i could want. Other than what common sense tells me; i would hope one of our expert seed savers (@heirloomgal ) might come along with a spoon full of real wisdom and save me from something i can’t forsee?
Oh, and the electriculture project!
not only do we not have Any Slugs this year but now that the berries are coming on; we also don’t have the little black beetles that normally decimate the fruit if your not right there to pick them.
Are these coincidental, i dont think so. But if this continues into the following seasons we will have turned our Hypothesis into a Theory? Or did i get that backwards?
