Just another day at the Bird feeder!
Now that he’s found it he may stick around; watching him and the Magpies harass each other is pretty cool.
This is an immature one and a first for us, we have had a couple Ravens in the past but usually just the usual Magpies, some woodpeckers and the little birds; who are the reason for the feeder in the first place.

When i went out to re-load the bird feeder (for Thanksgiving) this little Red Breasted Nuthatch greeted me, not the least bit afraid! Makes me feel good to see the little birds actively working on the bones!

While fixing our dinner yesterday i found this Lady bug inside a head of Romaine, which is kinda common. We always soak the produce in a weak peroxide bath and drain before refrigerating then as i peel off the leaves for a meal i’ll rinse them again and this is when i found her. Well, i just left her in the sink till i was done with the meal prep then took a closer look and noticed movement! So; i scooped her up, giving her a crude form of artificial respiration and turned her loose in a potted mint plant.
This morning she was easily found patrolling her new neighborhood.
If life is not to her liking in the mint it’s a quick hop over to the 4 Cucumber plants.

Well, it got up to 42f today with some Sun! Sorry @heirloomgal; i know your struggling!
Everybody’s roof is dripping and it’s entirely comfortable outside. Comfortable enough that if this stays another day (and it’s suppose to) i might gather up a fly rod and head down to a local creek that will still have flowing water.

Hahaha, not really Alasgun, we've been spoiled so far this winter. Everyone around us though is having a hard time. But I'll be curious to see how this winter unfolds since even Texas was issued a frigid winter warning!
Creek fishing! What fun! Kids and I went to a still flowing creek today too. So pretty!

I have a question about the electroculture method. I'm wondering if it would prevent cats from getting into my garden. One went into my newly filled metal bed and used it as a toilet. I hate cats. I'm trying to figure out a way to stop them from getting near my garden.

Still grooving in the 40’s excites my creative juices; so I thought I’d show (anyone who may be interested) how to have great starter mix with out buying something special; which may not end up to be so special!
I’d mentioned this previously but know that a picture is worth a thousand words. In this case I’m prepping some Russian Comfrey seeds for stratification but this same procedure works well for any of the finer seeds. Minus the freezer
Separating the fines from some 707 previously occupied by a Tomato! Lightly compressed into cell trays before placing a couple seeds in each cup. The blunt end of many writing instruments has a nice concave end with a color coded depth reference! In this case a fine Sharpie. After pushing the seeds to depth sprinkle enough fines over everything and lightly compress again.
Remove one of the cell trays and add 1/2 inch of water and after replacing that tray; wet down the top well with a spray bottle. Capillary action will take over at this point and it will be uniformly moist in about 10 minutes. Cover the whole 10/10 tray and place in the freezer for a bit. These will come out around the first and go under lights.

I use this same procedure for EVERYTHING I plant with some variance; the vast majority of my stuff just goes straight into 707 with out the sifting. And very few things need stratification.
Also, for the vast majority I don’t fool with these small starter cells; preferring the #35 cups @ 18 per 10/20 tray.
