our first potato harvest

after all the rain and various diseases we did the plunder this morning.
ranging from marble to nice size, with all the rain there was a few split as well. first to be used
asked the dw if this was a do over next spring... she said yes but wants some reds as well

Yum, turned out better then ours did. Sadly, moles made a meal of most of ours and many were rotten.

MontyJ pulled about 10 beets for pickling later in the week. I should have more ready by the weekend to go with the 10 he pulled the other day. He makes some awesome potato salad, thought maybe there were enough red potatoes out there for that, he dug one plant and it only had one potato under it. Hope we get more than one potato per plant.

Yes, a potato fresh from the garden is an entirely different critter than one from the store. Of course, they get more store-like over time . . . Make sure you have some varieties the store doesn't have, then! That's my idea altho', I find it a little tuff since the garden center wants to give us everything that we could buy at the soopermarket.

I have no idea what it is like to grow and harvest after months of frequent rains . . . . Looks good to me, tho'.

We have lots of flowers on the green bean plants. We should get a nice harvest from them, and we also have tassles on the corn plants..... Now that's awesome, when you want fresh corn, just walk out to the garden and pick a few ears

This is what I think too. I was waiting for the purple majesty potatoes to get big, so I can weight them and out do my friend in Kansas because she is trying to out do me, but I got to thinking, I want some new potatoes, so we dug about 4.5 pounds yesterday. We dug 3 small plants on the end that I think was not getting enough water, so we could have 75 or more pounds still in the ground. The purple taste just like a regular potato. I have red ones and I think some white that came up on their own and a few yellow or butter type. Here is a picture of some that we dug, the water they were boiled in that looks kind of green and what they looked like after being cooked. I am not sure if they sent all purple majesty or a few of the blue ones too. After being cooked, I had what looked like blue potatoes and purple potatoes.
