Gotcha, so everything out of her is freezer bound then. When its time to replace her will you repeat the beef x jersey cross again and start again there?

Sorry for all the questions this is something I've thought seriously about doing myself (buying a calf like sushi I don't own any dairy cows to make one) so its really good to hear first hand.
I don't think I will be in that position. My Jersey, Emma, turns 3 Aug 7th. Between her and Sushi I should have a LOT of years of milking. Only in the commercial dairies are the lives of cows shortened because they are always pushed to peak production. My understanding is that they are pretty used up by around 5 years of age or so. I know lots of folks with family cows that are still producing and having babies in their teens. At my age, and with my RA, by the time I need to replace my cows, I will not be able to take care of them anymore.

I can't think of a more precious photo than a new baby and a mama, of any creature, humans too...

When I was in high school I worked part time at a dairy, Jersey's and Guernsey's only and the two mixed. Nobody had heard of low fat milk back then. The old Dutchman owner fed the cows dried apricots while they were in the milk parlor. :)

I'd love to have a Guernsey, they are so cute! But alas, alack, even little EmmaLouMoo produces much, much more milk than we can use. I actually try to keep her at her most limited production, but the milk she gives is like pure gold to me! :weee
