After the roof cave ins from the heavy snows we had the winters of '07, '08 and '09 my husband is leery of letting the snow build up.
I'm leery of him getting up on the roof.

I think most homes have a standard 40lbs/sq ft rating, but dh's worry is a sneaky continuous snowstorm that would add on to what's already there. So he removes it when it gets above the vents.
That's what we did for a large part of the day yesterday. He took it off the roof, I shoveled it off the walkways and entrys. While I waited for him to get ahead of me I also took it off the haystacks, dog run, wood shed and tractor shed.
Yeah, definitely got my fill of shoveling yesterday.

Dh said that the snow on the east side of the roof was at least 4" deeper than the west side.

We do the same here @thistlebloom , but DH is on the roof to clear the solar panels. This year, he has taken to mounting a rope to the belvedere on the roof, and hooking that to his belt.

This past storm, I was out raking snow off the hoop coop in the yard, when I looked up and then dissolved into uncontrollable laughter. DH was wearing a rabbit fur hat, which makes his head look like he's wearing a rat costume. And there at waist level behind him was this long tail! Perhaps I was punchy from all the shoveling I had done, but I was bent double gasping for air with laughing!

The last few nights we had rain. 34 °F. Today it snowed during the night. 5°F. Meteorologists promise us -22°F in the near future. It seems that the weather held a New Year's holidays in the cheapest bar, but the money for a snack ended sooner than alcohol. Global warming is similar to global chaos. Sometimes I think I came fifth season. I even know the name for this outrage! But conscience does not allow me to say it out loud!

How about just pollution?

Are we supposed to think that it's a wonderful thing because it puts money in our pockets?

Try for a cleaner way! Healthier. Fresh air. Clean rivers. A lighter touch on our soil and on Earth ...

That's funny! Of course you didn't have a camera handy...

Too bad you didn't have your camera with you.

I would have loved a photo, but the house was a long wallow through the snow. And I am still holding out on owning a phone!
The image is still in my head though, and people may find me chuckling for no apparent reason.

Single digitS' here this morning ... good thing that DW is with me for company ;).

Good thing the power is on to run the furnace, also! It's 3°f at the nearest Weather Service station. Nearest Weather Underground station has it as 4°. The differences around the neighborhood seems to be the amount of wind! Luckily, there are some mountains protecting us when the wind is from this precise direction. Meanwhile, 10 miles +/- away, the wind chill is in the double digitS' below zero!

I used to think: Wind chill? You're making that up! Still, folks better take it seriously

.

My understanding on Olde Fahrenheit is that he made it up, also. His scale started at the point a "brine solution" would freeze. However, you have to decide for yourself how much salt to add to the water so that it freezes at 0°f. Any experimenters who want to be out there are supposed to have the opportunity tomorrow when it will again be down below zero, on Fahrenheit's scale, no wind required.

Brrrr....that's cold! Never experienced it. It's been raining the last couple of days and another storm is supposed to hit this weekend. Everything in the yard looks good! :) Fruit trees are nicely pruned and beds are clean.
