There sure are a lot of prettier pictures out there.

I finished with the wet compost awhile back, and have been using the same sieve to sieve the compost-ash soil through. That particular bed in the picture is just now done except for planting. Has the antigopher cage in it, filled to 4" from full, then I actually amended that bed some with bone and fish meal, just a little, mixed first with some bags of store bought soil, mixed 2 buckets in with a shovel a few inches, smoothed it, then added the top 3 or 4 inches. I have enough to do that to for about 3 more beds.

I sure hope it all works. The bone and fish meal has a bunch of soil biologicals in it, things with names like bacillus subtilis and azobacter something. Supposed to be good stuff. I think it should be.

This is either the impression in the snow of the wings of the bird that massacred my young hen or the last efforts of the poor thing fighting for her life.
