I usually buy plants from walmart, lowes, nursery's or the local amish farm but this year I ordered seeds but didnt get them started indoors yet. Is there any veggie you cant start outside from seed? I know I will have a longer wait time for harvest but I didnt know if there was anything I should go buy and start my seeds early next year.

This is my list

Carrot, Sweetness II Hybrid Packet
Carrot, Tendersweet Packet
Pepper Collection, Stir Fry
Pepper, Fooled You Hybrid Packet
Pepper, Hot Mix Packet
Shallots 1/2 lb.
Spinach, Melody Packet
Squash, Early Butternut Packet
Squash, Summer Medley Hybrid Blend Packet
18 different Herbs
Cauliflower, Snowball Packet
Cucumber, Pioneer Hybrid Packet
Cucumber, Sweet Burpless Hybrid Packet
Lettuce, Gourmet Salad Blend Packet
Onion Set Collection
Pea, Super Sugar Snap Packet
Garlic Sets 1/2 lb.
Peanut, Early Spanish 2 oz.
Watermelon, Carolina Cross Packet
Bean, Stringless Bush Packet
Corn, Peaches & Cream 1/4 lb. Collection
Beet, Cylindra Packet
Beet, Detroit Dark Red Packet
Broccoli, Packman Hybrid Packet
Brussel Sprout, Long Island Jumbo Pkt
Cabbage, Flat Dutch Packet
Hubbard squash
parsnips

I also have potatoes that I am planning on getting in the ground on good friday.

Potato, Goldrush Russet
Potato, Kennebec
Potato, Georgia Jet Sweet
Potato, Yukon Gold
Potato, Red Pontiac

I have never done potatoes, carrots, beets (any root veggies) before & I've never had good luck with corn. Any Ideas are welcome!!

I usually start tomatoes, peppers, and basil indoors, because we have a relatively cool and short growing season. Everything else I will start outside, unless I need to get a jump-start for some reason (particularly cold weather or eager to get my first harvests). I will also start seeds inside if I think they need to be fussed over (something I haven't grown before or something that I only have a few seeds for).

If you have a relatively long and warm growing season, you may be able to get away with sowing the peppers outside.

You won't get much of a tomato or pepper harvest if you rely on waiting til the ground is warm enough then direct-seeding.

I'd look up the broccoli and cauliflower too - I have not grown them myself but think of them as something you traditionally start indoors (unless you are only doing a fall crop)

The others seem reasonable for direct-seeding

Have fun,

Pat

carrots
spinach
herbs
lettuce
peas (now)
beans
beets
All can be sown directly into the garden. I think you are about the same zone as me (5) so you can put your peas in anytime now and you can even try some lettuce, spinach and radishes.

I dont have my garden completly finished yet.

We had a garden last year which was about 30' X 50' and this year I will probably triple it. We would have had a bigger one last year however we didnt move into our house until June 2nd and our garden didnt get put in until about the second week of July.

I will post pics of the area we are going to plant later this week or this weekend.
