We too need to get a bunch of chainsawing done constantly and seem to be off again for bar iol. In addition we are always doing stuff with hose ends AND there will never be enough netting! I too am just buying it when I can and putting it up everywhere!

Pray for my new orchard. Want those deer to keep their antlers away!

Good sharp chain makes a big difference. Sharpening it is like real exercise.

I have an idea for those expensive workout places! They should have chainsaws with dull chains that need sharpening, and have the workouting people do "reps" sharpening chains! Ha! Have them pay to sharpen chainsaw chains! I ought to drop my chainsaw off at the Gold's gym in the morning when I go to town, and pick it up when I leave for home. Set a coffee can next to it for them to pay 10 dollars to sharpen it!

Like Tom Sawyer and his fence painting . . ? We could all be Sawyers and have a coffee can at Gold's Gym ;).

I hate work!

I've always said that dahlias aren't much trouble because you have to prep a bed for any annual plants. May as well do it in the fall when you dig roots. The spading fork isn't much work but . . . planting requires a posthole digger . Maybe I'll opt for a spade today and see if that makes the lifting of the dirt a little easier on my back. Unnh!

Out to put the gladiolas in also . . . another easy fall task turns into spring weight lifting .

I filled my "bonus" bed today with forest compost.

Test question for the math wizzes:

It is 30 inches deep, 3 feet wide, 6 feet long. How many 10 cubic foot wheelbarrow loads, full, did I fill it with?

Honestly, I'm no math wiz. More of a math whiff -- I strike out aaalll the time!

2.5' x 3' x 6' = 45ft

45ft/10ft = 4.5

4 and a half loads just about exactly.

Mrs. Robinson had us read Tom Sawyer in 3rd grade. I loved reading it! When it came time for the book report though, I made a report about Nat King Cole instead. But that is the exact concept.

Tomorrow I'm overseeding the Flor de Mayo. Got low germination there.

It is really all about the effort.

When I was a kid, I thought I'd grow up to own a dairy farm. We had cows - I liked cows. I liked growing what they needed to eat. Dad said we had to learn how to do chores. The cows couldn't wait a day.

I can do chores until the cows come home . . . When there's something new, maybe once-a-year to do, it looms over me like that Tom Sawyer fence. I make plans. I bake and half-bake plans. I burn plans. I find others to contribute. Usually, I have to make a break for it - to put in more time for planning. Often, the work gets done almost as an afterthought.

The dahlias are all planted - 30-some per bed. Two beds are a few feet short. One bed is more than 4' wide. Then, there's the extra caboose bed #9 . . .

Today, there are the glads. Shoulda started with them but I've got to run the sprinklers . . . better check NOAA to find out when that wind is supposed to kick up . . . .

This rather pointless post is just for the sake of me wanting to use the funny smiley Steve posted earlier :p

My current garden preparation job has reached it's final level. You see it works like this:

Level 1 - make a hole in dirt
Level 2 - do some stuff to tentatively make a pretty place
Level 3 - weed
