I hear several of you talking about your "expected first frost date" and want to know how to find that info for my area. I don't have a copy of the Farmer's almanac yet myself. If this is where the info is, would someone who has one look up my area for me and pass on the info? I live in Tenmile, Oregon..zip is 97481. Thanks in advance.

Easiest and probably most reliable way - ask at the nearest GOOD nursery or garden center. The kind where they grow some of their own plants and have at least one employee who actually knows things :)

I am considerably farther north than you, but I usually expect the first frost around October 31st.

That website says first frost Apr. 8th.
Early!
Our summer has been really mild.
The highest temp. we've gotten this year was like 101F.
It usually gets to 105 every day.
I hope we get lots of snow!

Wow! Ours in Northern Wisconsin is Sept. 15, but we had a frost on Aug. 26 and again last week. This after a short, cool summer. Only one batch of tomatoes in the canner this year... :(

I feel your pain :/ We just had our first frost (locally, at least) last week, and it was not forecast. Fortunately we picked our solo red 'mater earlier...
