Weekly update

These 4 cups were furthest from the florescent light ballast, so they have been in a cooler environment. I would say right around 65F would be the ideal temperature.

All of the bottoms are swelling, but lost the tag purple in water is furthest along.

I'm almost wondering if adding regular household hydrogen peroxide to the water might help? My thought is it would increase the oxygen in the water. IDK... what's your thoughts? Maybe something to try for round 2 next year?

I'll try and remember to post another update next week.

Did I mention I'm getting some organic non-irradiated ginger and tumeric to try and grow. I think i'm hooked on doing crazy plant stuff outside of my usda zone 7a

more hydrogen peroxide than a few drops would likely damage any delicate root hairs. i'd not try that experiment with any plant i valued.

Update: No doubt about it we got roots :). It's getting a little slimy. No bud breaks on this cutting and it's the largest diameter of all I tried to root. I think it's time to get it out of the water and pot it up. I have a square rooting pot, what you think?

I wanted to share a personal observation, mainly for my own edification. I can clearly see the root has grown from the leaf bud (red arrow) down under the bark (red circle) i can clearly see the it inbetween the cambium and bark.

So... my uneducated conclusion is this is why you don't want to either bury or submerge the bottom leaf node, which would cause it to rot. You want moisture to wick up from the cut to swell the bark so the roots can find their way to the bottom and outside world.

I find crazy plant stuff fascinating, I suspose I'm easily amused.
