I've heard the best resource is the local beekeepers associations in your county or region, as they get together periodically and exchange info, help one another, mentor newbies, etc.
I don't have a local club here, but I'd try to get in contact with them if I did. Some clubs are more active than others, from what I can gather.
This is one of the better online forums for beekeeping and are very receptive to helping new "beeks". http://www.beesource.com/forums/ (this is the second online forum I'd ever joined back when I got my first computer...it's where I got my screen name and I've never changed it)
Unless things have changed, I'd avoid Beemasters.com...not as friendly or as helpful to new people. (This was the first forum....I left post haste and never looked back.)
