I was wondering if anyone happens to know where I can purchase Brinkles' Orange Raspberry Plants?

It has come to my attention that a lot of the old time heirloom varieties are going extinct and that this phenomenon is receiving little conservation attention.

I also began this thread, as I feel that many others might be seeking old heirloom varieties as well and that it would make for an interesting conversation topic.

Here are some other Missing In Action / Possibly Extinct heirlooms that I am searching for.

Taliaferro Apple - Grown by Thomas Jefferson. The Taliaferro family name comes from some of the first brave souls who arrived in Jamestown and played a hand in the early days of American History.

Luther Burbank's White Blackberry - Luther Burbank is the man responsible for the Shasta Daisy, Elephant Heart Plum and Burbank Russet Potato. You have him to thank for McDonald's French Fries.

@marshallsmyth might know something about the orange raspberry. He's kinda into raspberries, I think. Welcome to the forum. I hope you are able to find the seed/plants you are looking for. That apple sounds interesting. I read that the apples of yesteryear are nothing like modern apples. We have bred out the flavor and nutrition in trade for disease resistance and beauty. Sad.

The apple was one of Thomas Jefferson's favorites for cider.

Modern apples, with the exception of the Honeycrisp, have nothing on heirloom apples.

Honeycrisps are outrageously priced and the quality in stores is declining due to a focus on mass production and imported crops.

I decided to plant my own to ensure my supply. Red apples at the store were not so bad when I was little, but now they taste like wax. I do not want my precious Honeycrisps to meet the same fate.

So are you going to plant seed from Honeycrisp? Wonder how long it would take to get apples from a seed.

You can not grow Honeycrisp from seed. Honeycrisps originated in a Michigan laboratory in the 1970's if I remember correctly and were almost discarded.

I purchased my young trees and they are fairing well, which is surprising because it is supposed to be too hot for them down here. I planted them along the coolest section of my property, so we will see how it goes.

Welcome Bluebonnet, Sounds like an interesting endeaver you are taking on I hope you keep us posted. I am currently searching for Benewah tomato seeds. No luck so far, and I am running out of time to find them and get them started for this years garden. If anybody knows where they can be found let me know!
