I spent much of the night in the dining car. I found those seats much more comfortable. We're about an hour from DC. I will sure be happy to get to the hotel!

Ooh, I just now saw this thread. I am so glad you are getting to do this with your grands. And that they want to go with you. Lots of kids get pretty unsocial when they become teens, and would rather take a beating than be seen with old people. (Maybe that applies only around their peers) Maybe they are better socialized than most kids. And maybe you are a pretty cool grandma!

Anyway, have a great time. :thumbsup

Being able to get up and move around was what I liked about the few train trips I have taken.

That was before I had so much trouble with this leg, tho. I might not be as mobile these days but contrast that to hours on an airplane ..! Maybe they have massage therapy in first class but, shoot!

Yeah, on the train I could even find a window on some of the cars where I could hang my head out :). Of course, the Pinkerton men would need to be shooting out of those windows at times during my journey.

Grands and I are ready for our trip to Washington DC tomorrow. Due to trouble in the area, we've decided to skip school tomorrow morning -- if indeed there is school to be skipped.

It seems someone broke into the armory and took off with 10 high-powered rifles. Someone reported they'd heard rumors of wanting to shoot up a school. Everyone in a 30 mile radius was on lockdown today.

By this time tomorrow we'll be toodling along on Amtrack. Wish us luck.

Also praying for nice weather in the East next week. I sure hope we don't end up walking in the rain all during our week's vacation.

Haven't done a thing either in the garden or with seeds yet. Worried they would dry out while I'm gone. Getting eager to be outside enjoying the creeping spring.
Wow the gun theft is horrible. Crazies all across this world. Have so much fun. We took the train from Boston to Ohio when our daughter and her family moved back here. We drove their rented truck back for them. We took a sleeper car and it was fantastic. Of course more money but not too bad as I recall. I was especially happy to have it when I saw the other passengers all curled up trying to sleep in awkward positions. The 10 hour car ride was a 15 hour train ride. It seems that other rail lines get first priority on the track and we spent a lot of time waiting on the rails. Of course the sound the horn at every crossing so sleeping was always interrupted. But we still enjoyed it.

Are you a chaperone for the middle school DC trip or are you taking them yourselves? Fortunately I was able to afford both kids' trips to DC with their school. Other side of the country. They both loved it, even tho it was exhausting for those youngsters!
