No, I never DID find a good solution to the seatbelt buckle problem. However... after driving his car a few times it dawned on me to suggest that he lift the arm rest so that he's not trying to reach around it.
Buckle unchanged, but problem solved. :)
@Nyboy, I feel for you. I've had that same conversation with my Dad several times. The solution - I refused to start the car until he was buckled in. He sat there all 'toaded up' (arms crossed, scowling, chin tucked in - looks just like 'Mr. Toad') all the way to the appointment.

These arthritic fingers don't get better, just worse, with time.
I still haven't found anything that a little exercise doesn't help ... a little.

Thumb and wrist have not bothered me much at all this year. Oh, the problem is still there.

THE problem showed up in the left knee this spring. That leg has been nearly useless for years, now, more pain. It won't go away but by the end of the day bothers me very little. Of course, if I sit too long, I can barely get up.

Cane my father wouldn't give in. I have to chose my battles with him.
That's a wise policy no matter who you're dealing with.
The only reason it worked for me is that we had an important, hard to get appointment to get to that he was not going to be able to drive home from. Otherwise he would have either thrown me out of the car and drove himself or just gone back in the house and forgot the whole thing.
It is so hard for them - to have the people whom they still see as children start to try and boss them around.

Cane your so right!! One day my father was going to city hall to complain about something. My sister said if you get arrested don't think I am bailing you out. My dad said same to me many times as a teenager!!

Oops, I misread your comment. I thought the knee had been useless for years.

The thought of having an operation always makes my pain lessen, too.

Yes, the leg joints have bent easily, up until now. Sometimes, they bend a little too easily and won't support my weight.

I can't lift that foot, So Lucky. I can't wiggle the toe digitS'. Did you know that you wiggle your toes when you put on your shoes? The whole of digitS' has to wiggle because those toes won't.

My knee hardly bothers me and I was down on it several times this afternoon. Yes, indeed. A useful prop, you see.

Down on your knee!

I don't complain about my knees. Still, if I could get down on one of them, it would probably hurt like heck and I'd be hard pressed to get back up. As long as I avoid any mention/thought/activity of getting down on a knee I have absolutely no problem with either one.
