Sentry was ill once again with a mysterious illness that the vets have never been able to identify. He died Monday November 11, 2024.

I have fought for him, beginning with hip dysplasia surgery when he was only 9 months old. He nearly died 2 years ago from sickness that the vets couldn’t figure out what was killing him. He pulled through and recovered. He had another episode of it a year ago and the vets suggested it could be some kind of autoimmune disease. Whatever it is, this time he didn’t make it.

He has been such a good dog, in a body that didn’t work for him. He had such heart, loved me fiercely, adored my granddaughters and loved his work. I’m grieving but grateful that he came into my life. I just feel empty.

This is terrible news. It's so sad that he had so many bouts of illness in his young life; it just seems so unfair for such a nice dog. It does sound like there was some sort of autoimmune issue in play. RIP good dog Sentry.

I’ve been trying to keep it all together but yesterday I finally broke down. I bawled and sobbed. I’m heartbroken. Sentry was my huggy dog. When BJ died and I finally gained enough strength to make the walk to the sheep barn, I spent hours there trying to heal my soul. Sentry was beside me, pressing his body against mine, offering his heart to comfort me. He licked the tears off my face and I hugged him tightly. Now he is gone. I have 3 wonderful dogs but they aren’t huggy dogs. There is wonderful healing power in a hug. Y’all go hug your loved ones, really hug them, and tell them you love them.
