I justed ordered a Illinois Everbearing mulberry tree from Burnt Ridge nursery. Last year I ordered 3 trees from them and was very happy with what they sent. Barerooted with lots of roots, started growing almost as soon as planted. First time I ordered trees mail ordered, a Illinois everbearing was growing strong till the deer dscovered it. I just ordered another and will do a better job protecting it. The killer is tree was $15 the shipping was $16.99. I know mulberries grow wild, but this tree's berries are said to be better then cherries.

That can happen. I just add it to the cost of the tree and decide if it is worth it. Sometimes I want something so badly that shipping sounds reasonable. I tried to order wheels earlier this year. "Only" $17.95 each made them cheaper than the $25.00 other places wanted, but the wheels shipped for $17.48 each. Sheesh! That made the $25 dollar wheels a steal!

Still, a fruit tree that I really wanted? I'd have done just what you did. Good luck with your new tree.

I hate high shipping costs. I never order when it is almost or higher than the item. :( I usually wait for a free shipping deal.

Some outfits make all their profit from shipping. I don't know why they make it look like they do. You know, on amazon it says something is 19¢. Then you see that shipping is $11.

ಠ_ಠ They could only sell the item for 19¢ and lose money.

I have my invoice from Native Seeds/Search in front of me. I should be embarrassed that I only ordered 1 packet of seed. There are lots more coming from other seed companies. Still, $2.95 for the seeds, $2.95 for the shipping. That's like the old days . . . . Native Seed/Search is a federal non-profit corporation. However, everyone working for them needs a salary.

I just wanted you to know - in case you wanted to order 1 or 2 items from them. I feel pretty good to not have to pay some high shipping charge.

The thing about high shipping and handling is that people won't return things as shipping is non-refundable. What is sold, stays paid for.

What gets me is when an online retailer hides the shipping in the cost of the product and tells you it's free shipping. Most folks that sell online offer free shipping if your total amount exceeds $XXXX, it pays to shop around.
