I don't feel like I've been as active this summer. I'm certainly not burning any calories by gardening. Somehow I am losing about a pound every 2 weeks give or take and I've not really been doing anything different really. Well, I take that back; I'm not doing as much home cooking right now. Too busy, too many evenings not at home. We don't eat out much either--never have, so it's been mostly sandwiches and quick stuff. We've been doing a lot of homemade pizza, which is actually pretty quick and easy for me to make the dough and all.

DH and I contemplated doing the fast metabolism diet earlier this spring, but it was too complicated for me at this stage in my life (and the kids are picky eaters anyway.) But I did get a good jump-start on the summer just by cutting out all wheat, soda, chocolate and most dairy, had hardly any sugar and went down to one cup of coffee a day. I did that for about a month and lost 7 lbs. But it was hard. Especially the chocolate and coffee.

I feel a little like I've been drug through a knot hole and haven't any loss to show for it. But, it's that hot weather I'm blaming everything on this year.

If I spend 6 hours on all those high 90's/100+ days just hanging out indoors ... I'm eating almost continuously ...

Losing 14# during the summer is a big deal, Thistle'! It's all chub ... I mean, 15% body fat still puts men in the fit category. The percentage is even higher for women. Whether we accept those definitions or not, we need to cut ourselves some slack!

I doubt if most of us have a clue as to what it takes to drop 15 or 20 pounds in such a short amount of time.

I've done the eat 3 servings of fruit before anything else at breakfast for a few winters. That really seemed to help. Something occurred to me the other day -- how about 3 servings of veggies before anything else at lunch and dinner?

You see, there is no denial to this. It becomes a matter of capacity ...

Consider how fast and much of the vegetables and fruits your body converts to simple sugars and then your body stores as body fat. I attended a University diet class and was told that I wasn't eating enough fruits and vegetables, so I did ...and followed their personal structured diet for me to the "T". I gained 10 lbs. in a week and a half. So I returned to my carnivore based eating and I lost the extra 10 lbs. in 2 weeks. So much for diets that fits all. ps. I lost 26 lbs. the past 3 months on my carnivore ( mostly protein ) diet. : Idunno

1 pound of ground beef has about 1,000 calories
1 pound of cooked carrots has about 150 calories
1 pound of raw lettuce has less than 75 calories.

On a diet of 3 pounds of food each day and burning some body fat by keeping calorie intake about 2,000/day, I could go far on such a simple set of ingredients. Okay, 3,000 calories might keep me happy.

If my diet consists only of carrots and lettuce, I would slowly starve ... and maybe not so slowly.

I doubt if a balanced diet would be achieved with only these three foods but it is easy to see where the most calories come from, pound for pound.

12 pounds since April Fool's Day!

That is a 4# loss over the last 12 days ... Pretty good, huh?

It seems about usual for me to lose so slowly early in the season. Then, I may even drop a pound or two in October. But, we are a ways from October ... !

I think it's likely for me to hit my 15# loss goal :).

I feel so much better moving around, Thistle'.

I'm still as awkward as ever, it's just that I recover more easily. Also ...I get up and get moving more easily.

I swear. If I have to go to scrawny to be able to get up outta a chair, I'll do it. No fear for scrawniness at the moment. I would settle for fit!

Wow, Steve. I am impressed. How are you doing it?

Mary
Getting up really early. Spending many hours outdoors, every day. Wrestling with every known weed and bug, hereabouts. Going to bed tired ... umm, eating lots of fruit & veggies ...
