Hey ya'll, just feel sorry for Georgia and north Alabama. They have been on the news-it's terrible for them. Cars stranded on the interstates and highways for days, people taking strangers into their homes so they didn't freeze, children were stranded at schools and had to sleep there. We got the light end of the ice storm, but they got the double whammy!

@digitS' of course I have a good sense of humor about the ribbing. But that goes both ways, I give ya'll heck over your ice and snow when I have sunshine and warmth. Then the pendulum swings and I have fry-an-egg-on-the-pavement summers and ya'll are in the vastly better place. ;)

What is it like to have record lows in the upper Midwest?

It is praying for the numbers to move down ... down from 18 to 16, from 12 to 10, from 6 to 4, and hopefully down to 0 so we can begin praying for the numbers to move up.

It is low temperatures combined with high heating bills. It is fuel gelling, batteries dying, windshield wipers ineffectively jumping over ice-coated windows, and standing in wind tunnels of arctic air while the gas pump plays games with your credit card.

It takes a special type of person to stay North and keep life moving along without complaining. We are not that special.

So we complain . . . about the cold in the winter . . . about the heat in summer . . . about the mud and wind in the spring, about the leaves in autumn, and everything that won't get done before winter.

@baymule ... I've been watching that too... what a horrible mess! Our snow is nothing, ice is the worst! We are prepared for it here, most roads are pretreated, and we get more snow than ice. If it gets too deep just keep your wheels in the ruts. :D At least you still have some traction, for those of us that are smart enough to slow down!... the fools get to see a spinning ditch com'n at 'em.
What a crazy winter!

The weather man today told us here to expect Feb. to be even snowier than Jan. was.

If it will stay above 20 degrees, at least DD6 will get to do some sledding.

According to Great Grandma Minta -- the ground hog notwithstanding -- "The first day of February controls February and the second day of February controls March". That will get us the general weather through March and "Poof" spring is here before we know it.

All I ever got out of Ground Hog Day was that if it sees its shadow we have six more weeks of winter and if it doesn't see its shadow, winter will be over in a month and a half. DUH!

I like your first and second day of February weather prediction, Red. Your Great Grandma Minta must have been a smart lady-like her great grand daughter!

We got a foot of cold powdery snow last week. It was easy to clean up and melted over the weekend. Yesterday we had the perfect snowstorm. 6 inches a bit heavy and beautiful to see.
