This is a very troubling thread, but one that I've read with interest. What can we do about these problems? I love the idea of planting an extra row in my garden for those who have little, but none of the food banks in my area want real food. They're in the market for boxed macaroni and canned tuna.

Perhaps we should have a 2015 thread of hope, where we all try and reach out a little bit, gardening style. There's enough of us where it would surely make a difference.

@AMKuska, I'm all for that even if just one person decides to make a difference, it's a great thing. Key is to not become discouraged at all the injustices, laziness, apathy, etc. that you will encounter.

Maybe we start a thread where we post what good thing we did for someone else? Since we are really anonymous to each other.

I think if you can make the help personal, then that helps with the helped persons accountability. There's probably not a great deal we can do about the "help" we give involuntarily through social programs the govt. sets up where there is not enough accountability because that is not the nature of that particular beast.

But maybe you know someone who needs a temporary boost, someone you can look in the eye and encourage, and be an example to, so that they can turn around and pay it forward themselves.

For myself that would involve getting out of my comfort zone and actively finding a person to help one on one. But I'm positive it's possible.

That is the way a school bureaucracy thinks. It only works if your parents think you done wrong. My grandson and 6 of his friends (should have been 29) were given 3 days off. All spent watching movies and eating snacks at my daughter's house. Some punishment, huh?

It is up to the parents to make it a punishment if their child is suspended.
