I imagine that we can all appreciate some things about our locations and not appreciate others.

Wales looks like a beautiful place from the pictures and videos. Public broadcasting had a recent show with the olde guys from All Things Great and Small traveling the length of the country.

The long winter nights would drive me nutz! I'm not sure if it doesn't have something to do with childhood in a less northerly location. Maybe, it's a vision "thing." Well, I know IT'S a vision thing. I look out the winter evening window again and again, at darkness and nothingness. I go outdoors after dinner (or before) and darkness descends around my shoulders like a black shroud. Wail!

Steve

is that why it is called Wales? j/k... :) one way i manage to get through winter is by knowing that the next spring is coming. by the time winter really sets in though the days are getting longer and noticeably so where i can talk myself into "just another 60 days or so all will be well and the flowers will be coming out and the bugs and birdies and ..."

The largest community in Wales is way to the south. Probably, it's on London's line of latitude.

I would love to be in Scotland or the fjords of Scandinavia in the summer.

A winter on an island in the Baltic or Bering Sea must be like a descent into Hades. Damned or a Prisoner, at best.

Go to the RH to of your page. Mine looks like this, "My Account.."
Click on it and you will see Your Account.
Click on That and then click on account details. (Minus my email) Mine looks like this, "My avatar."
Click in the box that says, "Location:", fill it in, and click below everything to save. UK would suffice. We have several members close to you, and you will get very good advice from the people who live Close to you.

What's happening with this weather, it's very rarely dark. Waking up at 3am with the light shining through my curtains. Thinking of boarding up my windows just to get a good night's sleep ☀:hu:hide

Not sure about where you live~light pollution, perhaps?~but it gets dark where I live. In fact, folks have been saying for a very long time that we have to pipe in the sunlight because we live so far back in a holler. ;) We can see even still see the stars at night!

We won't be seeing stars tonight, there are dark clouds and a weak attempt of thunder with light rain. :) What does far back in the holler mean?

Marie, do you live very close to the ocean?

I will yield to residents or previous residents of the part of the US where they use the word holler for its definition. But, I wanted to make the observation that many of the mountains there were not what I was used to, visiting from the Inter-mountain West. There are Steep Sides to some of those hills and ridges!

It's easy to understand how someone running on top of a ridge, narrow as it may be, might roll off into a canyon, be swept further down in a cascading stream, carried into a river, floating on down the Mississippi until the torrent widens and slows and he or she can make it to shore and be revived by a good cup of coffee.
