A few shots of the fruiting so far. Strawberries, peaches and apples. I didn't get a shot of the grapes for some reason. They are going gangbusters as usuall.

I was completely caught off guard by the apple tree. My pollinator tree was cut down by the county when they brought the city sewer across the back of the property. I ranted about it in another thread, so won't get into that again. By the time I realized there were apples, it was too late. I think they will be wormy.

My berries are doing pretty well so far, strawberries are doing really well and the blueberries are just starting to turn. I'll get some tomorrow. Blackberries look great. The briars are covered.

Fruit is another thing. We had a late frost, even snow here in May for the first time in recorded history. One of my two peach trees looks OK but plums, apples, cherries, and grapes, not his year.

Wait til next year!!!

Good luck with those apples. It may not be your goal, but there is nothing wrong with apple butter or apple sauce.

EXACTLY what I was thinking. And what isn't good toss to the chickens and let them finish it for you.

My wild blackberries were smoothered in blooms this year Ridge. I hope they get some size to them. There has to be something close Chickie. I know there are some apple trees about 1/4 mile away (as drawn in a straight line), so maybe those were the pollinators? Only about 1/3 of the flowers were pollinated. Believe me, those apples won't go to waste. I love apple sauce! Heck, I'll just cut around the worms and eat the apples anyway!

what type of apples you got going there? i thought i read that sometimes apple trees can pollinate themselves if they are a self-fertile variety, they just can't fully pollinate themselves. if it was a self-sterile type you shouldn't have the fruit on them without the other variety. but i wouldn't doubt having other apple trees within 1/4 mile that they helped to pollinate that tree!

oh, and if you want to help keep the fruits from getting wormy, see about getting some nylon stockings, or knee highs and slip them over each fruit. it is an organic method i came across and i think someone else on here mentioned using them a few years ago.

It's a McIntosh...or maybe a Jonathan (I love both and can't remember...getting old sux). I also have a Fuji but it's only a year or two old. I can't even remember what variety my peach trees are, but both have lots of peaches, and boy are they gooood!!!

Nice photos, MontyJ!

My strawberries are a tad behind yours. . . not getting red, but growing big. The orchard trees all have set fruit as we managed to miss the last frost during blooming time. Currants, alpines, grapes, raspberries, blackberries, boysenberries, mulberries, even the wild fruits - blackcaps, grapes, and gooseberries - are looking great so far. The biggest disappointment is NO BLUEBERRIES! It must be that blueberries set fruit buds the prior season and because of our drought last summer there have been no flowers this spring. What a big disappointment, both for us and the bumbles who do most of their pollination!
