I stopped watching the news a long time ago, and don't get the paper anymore. Now and then I'll catch a news station in the truck, but mostly listen to a music disc. If it's something major I figure I'll hear about it and can decide if I need to know more.

(I know, cd's are so outdated! My truck has a cassette player so a disc feels so cutting edge. :p I have to use a portable player that has a cassette that slides into my trucks player to work with the radio speakers.)
Works great for me.

That's me too....we don't have a TV, but every store or restaurant seems to have them, so one gets snippets here and there anyway or someone on social media informs the rest of this or that going on out there.

I only listen to Christian radio in the car now but even then I find myself turning the channel when they report the "news", especially if it's anything to do with politics.

My car takes a cassette tape too! :gig Not that I have any.

Every now and again I notice the general air of anger, usually at this time of year...you'd think it has something to do with daylight, but the hours are actually lengthening now. Maybe post holiday let down? The whole anti-climactic feeling of having lived all year towards a certain date or time, only to have it come and then go quickly, leaving a general air of "Well...now what?". Who knows? :idunno

I live with a feeling of expectant joy, of good things to see and feel all around me and with a hope of more of the same tomorrow and the next day. When the "rocks" of this world tend to abrade my senses, I just focus on something higher, something more worthy of praise and that all peels away like dried Elmer's glue. :weee

Short days, cabin fever, and a contentious election; so much joy to go around (sarc). Something in the air indeed. Think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts... :fl

More often than not, I'd rather listen to the radio than watch TV. I enjoy watching the news on one of the local channels, though... a good crew, always joking around with each other, and running "feel good" local stories. It feels like talking with family. The national news, not so much. I like to stay informed, so watch the network news occasionally; but the focus is always so negative, it just reminds me of the reason I stopped watching regularly in the first place.

Fortunately, when the world gets me down, I can always rely on DW to cheer me up when I get home. Even after 40 years with me, she still smiles when I walk in. Loves working in the garden with me too.:celebrate

There's always something more we could ask from life - and from others - but sometimes it is just better to count your blessings. Doesn't mean that you don't try to make things better, just don't allow life's distractions to get blown up out of proportion, to the point where they interfere with happiness. I frequently have to remind myself of that, when I catch myself getting angry over something trivial.

Political climate aside, there is something about this time of year....
The kids at school are acting all crazy, and every year I start to think, "why am I doing this again?"
A fellow teacher once gave me good advice:
Never make a life-changing decision in February. It stuck with me and I find that things almost always improve come spring!

Last Friday, the ultra "progressives" had a un-permitted protest where they tried to cross over bridges and onto I-5 to stop all traffic as well as doing property vandalism that they already done. The Portland, Ore. police blocked the bridges and had to use smoke bombs and tear gas to disperse the protesters. Today , this group of protesters is calling for the Police chief to resign for "police brutality" to stop their freedom of speech and vowed to disrupt all activities and businesses in Portland, Ore. today starting at 8:00AM . :idunno
Update : Only 2 showed up at the appointed place and time. Then about noon some of these protesters started to stand in front of public transportation buses and commuter trains and standing in front of cars at all corners of the intersections stopping all traffic in downtown Portland, Ore.. The riot police then started to have these protesters to move along. All they did was go to the next block and do the same. The general public stayed away from downtown in droves. The people that work down town that eat at local mom and pop restaurants and food carts also stayed away causing these eatery owners to loose up to 3/4 of their income for the last week. Later in the day and evening the protesters started to inflict vandalism ( break windows, set fires, throw rocks at police, etc. ) so the riot police started to make arrests. 18 protesters as well as the instigator leader of these protesters were arrested for vandalism and unlawful mayhem. Lets see if the liberal judges throw the book at them or just release them like they did in November.

Traffic Disruptions but No mention of assaults or vandalism yesterday in Portland news today, @bobm . Fox News, Portland -- The Oregonian Newspaper.

DS lives not all that far from downtown but at 5:30pm when he texted me after his work day was unaware of demonstrations.

Hardly battleground news reports but I don't know your sources.

Steve, I saw the news report at 11:00PM on channel KATU ( K2 ) . Also, my wife works in the Federal Building in downtown Portland, Ore. The building managers advised employees to go home early , so my wife left at 3:30 in the afternoon. She was on her way home on a commuter buss that was delayed by the protesters about 4 for about 20 minutes until the riot police dispursed the protesters who then went to another intersection to detain traffic . She saw a couple of the protesters throw rocks at the police and saw smoke about a block away. She said that the protesters were mostly doing the hit and run tactic in small groups in and around the downtown area.
