I was out with the dogs to check on a slamming barn door at 3:30 this morning. 84F, humid, sticky, and very windy. Not a cloud in the sky and the stars were very bright. I sat on an old hay wagon way out back for the better part of an hour (well, actually I laid on my back and almost fell asleep) and watched the trees bow way down in the strong winds. My two Goldens were very restless and wanted to get back to the house. I see on the radar map that there are some vicious storms in Missouri, Illinois, and northern Indiana this morning. We've been praying for rain for many weeks but we surely don't need trees down.

Isn't it sad that it sounds like the NORM for where I am. I have had lots of split trees with random storms as of late. The humidity is high and the heat is too, looks like 105 today again. I would like another chance of a storm as it cools it down, but alas, no call for storms again until this weekend.

Don't move to the south unless you can get used to the weirdness.... and I mean WEIRD, gross, sticky, hot, miserable.... and this is why central air is in EVERY home the build her by law!!! :coolsun

I live in North Eastern Georgia, at the foothills of the Appalachia Mountain Range. I was born here and lived here most of my life. I did live 1 year in California. If you looked at a map of California and put your finger in the middle of the state, north/south to east/west, I lived there, lol. While I was there it would rain in the winter time. What they called rain was really a drizzle that would last for days. I so missed the random thunder storms, thunder, lightening, down pours, wind gusts, hot one day, cool next week, high day time temps with muggy nights. I've always heard if you don't like the weather in Georgia, wait 15 minutes and it will change. Crazy weather is just a way of life here. Sounds like the jet stream has shifted and y'all are getting our weather.

I miss the random thunder storms, sigh.

As soon as I left the house the dogs took off into the woods. They think they're the keepers of the woods I guess.

After the sun came up this morning I went out to the bee hives to check for any wind damage. As I walked by my pickup I discovered what must have woke me up at 3:30 AM besides the banging door. A big, dead, oak tree branch came down across the hood of my truck. Pretty nasty dent in the driver's side fender and hood. Bummer!

I went out late last night to check if I'd properly secured the chick's space. I could see the moon and every star out there away from city lights. There was not a cloud in the sky that I could see, but in the north and west sky above the tree line, I watched a steady display of lightening - like the last minutes of a fireworks show - constantly lighting up and dancing across the sky. It was beautiful. It was also a bit scary because it was headed our way with high winds and heavy rains - perhaps even hail.

Alas, while we did get a moderate amount of wind, the rain continues to by-pass my part of the Earth. So today I pick up leaves and branches before I water the veggies. SIGH!

Love, Linn B (aka Smart Red) Gardening in zone 4b-5a, newly 5b? -- anyway, Im still in the same spot in south-est, central-est Wisconsin
