I have better luck planting on March 17. I love getting a jump on the blooms. March 30 is too late for my taste. I like early blossoms. I planted on March 2 a few years ago and got a wonderful crop of peas.

Maybe March 30 is better for your Gardening Zone, but not for mine.

Good job, Lesa! Now you can just sit back and wait for a nice early crop of fresh peas. We got a lot of wonderful rain last night. I'm so glad I got mine all in yesterday. Now it's time to sow the wildflowers.

While fighting the weird weather, I did plant 2 types of peas this year. I planted back at the beginning of February though.

So we put in some simple English Peas, and a package of White Peas I found at ParkSeed.com

It is St. Patrick's Day the traditional time to plant peas. Anyone in this group planting peas today? I am planting about 5 different varieties of edible peas. Any tips?

I soaked my pea seeds overnight.
I always thought it was traditional to plant Irish potatos on St Paddys' day.

Yummy, Vfem! I hope they do well for you.

I came across this fun article about why it's best to plant edible peas early. It makes the point that you will be picking and enjoying peas for a good six weeks, instead of just 2 days:

Yep, hoodat. Peas and potatoes both are traditionally planted on St. Patrick's Day. Yum! New peas and potatoes. That sounds tasty! I don't grow potatoes, myself, but the best ones I've ever had were farm grown. Do you plant Irish potatoes on St. Pat's Day?

I planted my peas on March 11 ... too late, I'm sure, for my zone. But it has been a busy spring and I got around to it when I could. They're almost all up now, working on at least 1" or more of height. Yay! I planted lots of spinach, carrots, radishes, and flowers that day too. Most things have started to come up.

That is great, Sweet Miss Daisy! I noticed the chard I covered with fir branches seems to have made it through the winter. I read that it is hardy to 15 degrees F, so I decided to experiment... Our coldest temp was 10 F, and only once did it dip that low at night, so that was lucky. I'm very glad I covered them.
