Got the new "Gardens Alive" seed catalog in the mail today.
In the center of the catalog is a fairly large section on 'Your Guide to Common Insect Pests and How to Contol Them Naturally" and "Common Diseases in Gardens and Orchards" and a "Weed Contol Guide", that I don't recall being in last years catalog.
All sections are with actual pictures for ease of identification.

Their website is:

http://www.GardensAlive.com

for anyone interested.

That is one of the things I love about their catalog. I also have great "luck" with all their seed starters, and plant foods that are specific to a particular plants needs etc. I am a loyal customer of theirs.

I gave away 12 of them today. I already have all my seed orders in and as was said, they just keep coming.
I kept 3 or 4 that I haven't had a chance to go through.
I put them in a stack when I was done with them and brought them to the barber shop today when the boys got haircuts, I trade seeds with my barber and I knew he would use the catalogs.
He was very happy to take them off of my hands and I know he appreciated getting them because he gave the boys free hair gel and tee shirts.

I am sooo jealous of you guys. I've requested 7 or 8 catalogs over the last month or so and the only one that has made it to my mailbox is Burpees. :hit

Please tell me that the others will show up before I have to start planting. I know I can shop online, but, like the rest of you, I want to drool on the pretty pictures first!

now that I have them all I do not see much difference in any of these catalogs they are all starting to look the same!!!

..be patient Desertcat you should get a landslide soon!

...and it looks like most of the catalogs have the same kinds of things just some are glossier and some have a specialty

over all I know what is going to happen is I will go through all of this until they fall apart and then go to the local nurseries and get what I want there :)

except the onions I did order those

Haven't got that one but have gotten several others.....with two that REALLY "stand out"....R.H. SHUMWAY's Illustrated Garden Guide"(140 year old company) and "Landreth's"(225 year old company). Both are done in late 1800's to early 1900's style.
First time getting these catalogs........a bright spot during these rainy, dreary winter days.
Reckon you could call seed catalog...the gardeners "red robins".....Spring is "right around the corner".
for ya'll that have ordered from either or both of these companies, are the seed packets made to look like the 1800's/1900's style?

I'm really wanting to make a wall hanging collage of vintage seed packets for my kitchen.

I haven't order from Shumway's for a few years (altho' I've gotten "stuff" from all of the sister catalogs right along). A couple of years ago, the only illustration on their packet was ol' R.H., himself.

Landreth sells vintage seed packets. I don't think there are any seeds inside . . .

Renee's Garden Seeds uses drawings on her seed packets rather than photographs. I was at the garden center today and noticed. I don't know if you have those seeds in your community but you can see some of the artwork on her webpage.

I bought seed from her company when it was Shepherd's Garden Seeds many years ago and was happy with the quality.
