new furnace is in.

kind of a crazy day with Mom making blueberry muffins this morning, plus wanting me to use up the entire loaf of bread she didn't like to make a bunch of grilled ham and cheese sandwhiches (i made one extra dark by accident so that was set aside for me for lunch) all the while she's baking muffins and then the guys show up to start tearing out the old furnace and then Mom had to go out for an appointment and drop off the muffins and sandwiches and the head guy for the furnace install had to go out and come back and the driveway was plugged up by two vans from the HVAC people and then we had someone coming over for lunch and playing cards with Mom and i'm doing dishes and also trying to watch a few other things that were going on and our cousin called to give me her address so we could get a package to her.

i really much more prefer a one-thing-at-a-time very quiet and peaceful sort of life.

a nap would be nice. :)

Wowsa sounds like you are in the thick off it. Did your heat source give up the ghost?

yes, propane burning furnaces and time means eventual replacement needed. we'd already had the heat exchanger replaced once plus other things done over the 28yrs so it was time to get it done. the heat exchanger was cracked and we were getting rather nasty smell in the house, plus likely some CO. for the past week we've mostly been using electric space heaters and the oven to keep the house warm and it did ok, but once in a while we did have to run the furnace to keep the crawlspace warm so the pipes would not freeze.

we have a better furnace with a bit more capacity than the previous one so it will burn a little more propane but it is also supposed to be more efficient so perhaps it will end up being a wash, plus if it heats the house faster then perhaps less electricity needed to run the fan. trade-offs... we'll see how it goes.

i'm just glad to have it done and so we can be back to somewhat normal (ha :) ) and we have some pretty cold weather still in the forecast. i'm glad too that we were able to find someone who could work us in - our regular HVAC company was booked for the next several weeks.

glad to see you back. :) hope you and family are doing well there?

then we had the water go out the other night. luckily we were able to get the problem resolved for a lot less than my imagination was spinning. i didn't think it was a frozen water line (we've had much colder weather for longer without a problem of that sort) or plumbing issue under the house but as it turned out that was the well pump control box.

after almost 30yrs things break. i've known these kinds of things were going to happen and am emotionally and financially ready for them. Mom on the other hand is not at all drama free and my attempts to change her reactions are not always "taking". haha! more drama than really needed but we get through it and we can talk about it and laugh afterwards. i do have to take some deep breaths at times and once in a while also have to get a bit louder (not yelling, but certainly a firmer tone of voice).

considering how cold it has been i'm very glad we did have electricity available instead of having to rely upon the propane tank. even if it cost us some extra $ i was happy to not have to contend with the smoke and fumes from a fireplace. and the water situation wasn't too bad either as i keep a supply of water on hand for such times plus we could get more from my brother or the store.

now i can try once again to get back to working on things i need to get done.

Just read thru this thread to catch up on all the @flowerbug activities.

Computer programs and additional data entry and locating date response:
Writing computer programs is a long term ever changing updating process. Required updating every few months to keep up with current changes made to the main frame systems that exist to protect privacy and provide the results required by each separate system on all devices and additional apps used is required. Language changes and information is processed by those changes by updating the systems organized to do a specific tasks.
Maintaining and updating in the settings on all devices is a regulated system. Adding additional systems to help organize and optimize information for users is readily available.
I just recently opened up 5G of computer space using an app designed to locate and distinguish data that can be deleted and or compressed to free up space to future additional data entry and access infomation needed.

The garden club: something to talk about.
Interesting to know you too show interest in your local garden club. I have learned everything about gardening over the years from floral arranging, community gardens and community service as well as flower shows , horticultural classes , judge classes , new plant introductions, etc. from years of attending our local garden clubs. So much to learn from great professional speakers and more. Always nice to see like minded individuals who luv gardening .
It would be nice to hear of your experiences from plant sharing , garden club plant sales and seed sharing in the community and your district .

Heating unit replacement:
That can be a costly investment and updating a heating unit to a more efficient unit can save money in the long run .
We don’t have natural gas and our main source of heating is an oil furnace. We have replaced the unit recently to reduce costly repairs and since rates keep going up on electricity. Several friends and neighbors have propane tanks .
I use propane to heat the greenhouse .

Take care and soon spring will arrive to a whole different combination of issues to explore.
Even now on the news they are planning our new season on wildfire protection with state and federal agencies.

Today is the day I do my errand and grocery shopping. Heading to the city soon. Have a good day!
