Good to know your husband is safe. Our bathroom doors swing in here; the master bathroom has two doors. Will have to think about a solution for the other bathroom. Interior room; one door, no window.

If the hinges pins are on the outside you could get the door open that way in an emergency.

Ok to dream a little here? Pocket doors can be motorized and connected to wi-fi. That means you can say "Hey Google, Open Sesame". It also means you have to have a closing phrase, which I find challenging because "Hey Google, Close Sesame" does not sound as fun. Maybe "Hey Google, Save the Planet" is better?

I vote for the pocket door, they just slide in the wall, out of the way and easy to open, no matter what. Glad your husband is ok.
Or barn door. I just read one of those silly stories about people whoo were missing and found a long time later. A man was stuck in a public bathroom (I cannot remember if it was a restaurant or a store) for 4 days. Big old door was jammed and place was closed . Luckily it had a sink for drinking water. He finally heard a janitor and called for help. Terrible. But it still makes me laugh.

I think pocket doors have to be preplanned while the framing is going on, although no doubt they can be remodeled in. Barn door styles can be put about anywhere.

Both of our bathrooms have pocket doors which I love since they don't take up space opening them. One of them locks but no one in our family has ever locked it. Figured if the door is close that means someone is in there.
