Mom and Dad are having a hard time in comming up with names for the identical twin girls. They would prefer prety similar names for each of them ... sooooooo ... any suggestions.
You know, really old-fashioned names are getting popular again, like Stella, Clara, Grace Opal, but I think some of those are just plain ugly names that should be struck from the list of possibilities. and cutsie names can be an albatross when the girls are 50 years old. A CEO named Bambi or Bitsy does not instill confidence.
Maybe classic names that can have "younger" nicknames, like Elisabeth (Beth or Betsy) and Margaret (Maggie, Margie) or Catherine (Catie, Cat)
At my grand daughters' school, their classmates have names that sound like alphabet soup. Not good either, in my opinion.
Two names I like are Cat and Kate. Cat (or Kat) from Cathleen and Kate (or Cate) from Katherine. Yes, both are from the same name, just as both twins are from the same egg.
Terri and Terese? Lynda and Lyndsy? Alice and Alesha?
Personally, I think I would go for different names so calling the girls is not so confusing: like Jane and Jean or Bethaney and Sarah.
Just talked to our daughter... the latest utrasoumd showed that one playmate was slightly larger than the other which means that when the split occured , it was uneven as the larger one received more cells than the other. Not only are they identical twins , but it seams as their hearts are beating in identical rythems as one. At first, the ultrasound picked up mom's heartbeat and one other heart beat. Then a further scanning revealed the twins' heart were in perfect sync with each other.
My mother and I suffer the same affliction of going through a string of names before coming up with the correct one. I sometimes end with "or whatever your name is." She would have to go through 5 names to get to the correct one. My daughter tells me she has done the same. With me it is associations with different people. When my niece Karen visits all females are Karen. My son Evan and Grandson Aidan-too close for this brain to get it right when they are both here. I am told this is not uncommon. So names that are similar would probably be a big mistake. They will always be the twins. So self identity will be very important to them. That crazy family with 19 kids-they all start with a J or something like that. I would be in the loony bin.
