Is there a reason you can't cut the potato in half, and set it in water with the cut side down? Will it rot if cut?

Never tried it like that. Why don't you cut one in half and see if it works out ok or if it rots.......and report back here. :lol:

That's what I did. It was too fat to get in a pint jar, so I put both halves, cut side down, in a dish of water. I think I better get another couple of potatoes to try the regular way with, just in case.

I had a couple of softball sized sweets that were weirdly shaped and I used plastic butter dishes for them! :lol:

Select a site with full sun and well-drained soil. Prepare the garden bed by using a garden fork or tiller to loosen the soil to a depth of 12 to 15 inches, then mix in a 2- to 4-inch layer of compost.
