The swiss chard does look good. Is it similar to other greens such as spinach in taste?

We pulled a few early potatoes last night and my wife roasted them, just had some for lunch. :)
personally I think it has a taste all its own it is a very mild green not nearly as strong as say a collard ...but it is a mild green like spinach just distinct from spinach if that makes any sense

I find that when I don't have romaine lettuce handy that the endive that I grow (I'm forgetting the name of the type right now) is even better in the caesar dressing. But I think I like strong flavored greens. :)

ETA: OK, I guess you learn something new every day. I knew it was endive (broad leaf endive) but apparently that is also known as escarole. LOL I thought the two were distinct.

I made my first real meal from the garden yesterday.

1 big green romaine lettuce
A handful of red baby loose leaf lettuce
A bunch of red,pink,gold,white radishes

Mmmmmm! Yummy salad!

My mom ate her first strawberries yesterday, so now I'm going out to hunt through my patch for a first strawberry.

Yummy HiDelight! I love saag paneer. Can I come over? ;)

I made saag paneer with nettles (well half nettles and half spinach). I couldn't really taste the difference and nettles are supposed to be one of those really healthy foods.

Yes, I don't get those types either. I guess it is ok to only eat meat (some cultures live that way) but I really don't think it is as high of a quality diet. JMO. :)

ETA: I love to eat leftover saag paneer in a spinach wrap.

I had my first strawberry yesterday too, Catalina. It was good, but I had to pick off the slug damage first. LOL I hope to pick my strawberries in the evenings this year, so that I get them when they ripen and before the slugs can really get at them. Wish me luck! LOL My guess is I will fail miserably.

:frow Hi there! :frow

I agree with HiDelight when she said "I love any greens strong ...bitter ...sharp ...mild ...hot ...cold ....tepid...."

I am constantly amazed by the number (and variety of tastes) you can grow. I found myself eating chickweed last weekend because it looked so delicious -- I was feeding it to my new little chicks at the time. I had read that it used to be eaten in the 17th Century here in the UK so I knew it was safe. It was so good ! :D

I had my first peas today. The plants have been blooming like mad this last week -- so I stood in the garden & gorged myself. They were so young & tender I could eat the pod as well. It was such a treat; my first home-grown vegetable this year -- I have had stacks of herbs though.

I know I didn't actually MAKE IT but........ :ya I was so excited because now I HAVE PEAS !! :celebrate :celebrate :celebrate

Happy Gardening & Eat Well

I don't know if this counts, but I made chocolate raspberry muffins.

The raspberries were from berries I picked in my garden and froze last year.
