So, the other day, I posted a msg on an old friends facebook page letting her know that my husband and I had gotten into "farming" with our own garden, knowing that she would be super proud. She has been in agriculture for as long as I can remember. She grew up on a farm, was a member of the FFA, went to college for agriBusiness and then because an AgriJournalist! Her husband and herself bought the Agriculture Broadcast Network (I think that's what the official name is.) in Ohio and had received many awards from the Farm Bureau and many other places. She was a wonderful person who always had a smile on her face and a kind word to say. After I posted about or little slice of farm (On less than a half acre mind you! LOL) another former classmate sent me a message telling me that she had been killed in a 2 car accident that morning. My husband and I decided that we were going to dedicate our slice of Earth to her, and his daughter who drowned last year.

Thus The Ivy Hill was born. Here are some pictures of the beginning of The Ivy Hill. We still have a long way to go with the things that we want to do, but, it's a start, and I think that Lindsay would be super proud of the fact that we're working the earth and growing. I also think that Ivy (Sams daughter) would love helping all of us with garden work as well.

So sorry to read of the tragedy- but what a lovely way to honor your friends. Your gardens are looking great! What a difference a few zones make- my apple trees are just now blooming! Wishing you an abundant harvest!

Yes, this will be a wonderful way for you to remember your friend and loved one... you'll think of them so very often, as you work in the garden, watch the garden grow and bloom, and as you enjoy the benefits of your labors. What a wonderful way to honor them.

Thank you guys. We are quite proud of our little plot, even tho it doesn't look like much yet. We did get kind of a late start here, but that's okay! :) I know that we will get at least one harvest from several of the things we have in this year! :)

I will dearly miss my friend, and will think of her often while I am working in my garden, and I know that my husband will think of his daughter as well.
