It is a little bit of a struggle here with this cold April.

And then, we can get in trouble with frost in May. But, our tomatoes always turn purple from the spring cold during their 1st few weeks outdoors and the peppers just sit there and look at us . . .

What is critical, from my experience, is that we have a warm June. It is easy to remember that our growing season was fairly grim last year. Things did okay for me but only okay.

Using NOAA's archived info: We (Spokane) only had 1 (ONE) day in June last year with an average temperature above 70F - it just wasn't warm enuf during the day and too cold at night to get that daily average up to anything respectable on June days in 2010.

Okay, then let's go back to 2009. We had only 5 days with a daily average of 70 but they started on the very first day of the month and the thermometer went over 80 again and again during June. It was a good year in my garden.

In 2008 there were only 5 of those 70 daily averages also but by the end of June, it was toasty warm! Two days at end of month topped out at 97! No waiting for warm weather until after the 4th of July that year, either!

We will get there! Believe!

Lesa, I sleep thru thunderstorms!

Once those hearing aids come out, people knocking on doors, barking dogs, howling wind, nothing much causes me any concern.

Got up with all the rototiller aches at 4am, tho'. Fortunately, then fell back to sleep in the Lazy Boy until DW had pancakes and eggs for me at 7!

Moved all the cold-season stuff out into my sweet spot for hardening off in the backyard only to come back in the house and have the Tru-Green guy at the front door soliciting business! Can't they see that I value those purple lawn violets in my front lawn!??

Ugh, paying someone to spray poison in your yard??? Whoever thought that was a good idea? Funny you mention those violets. I was just admiring mine in the backyard- wondering how I could make them spread!
