Which is the privet? :idunno

The shrubs were actually DH's idea but I figured what the heck - they are supposedly fast-growing (according to our friend) and we thought they would make a nice north property-line wind break....

But now upon reading about them I see they poisonous. That clinches it for me.

The privets are the ones that have leaves really similar to a yaupon but growing opposite on the stem. (Does that help?)

I concur, they are fast growing. ;) But yes, they are poisonous and invasive.

No, doesn't help much at all....lol. In my 3rd pic posted do I have it planted in a big red planter or a big black planter?

Don't let those Privet-haters scare you. I have seen your property and lord knows a privet could do no harm!

Come on guys, since when has one or two 'landscape' plants become some menace as to label it like bermuda grass! Geez.

I say grow the privets and let them become something wonderful. Privets take to heavy pruning and are often utilized to create living sculptures and shapes.

LOL You guys need "Invasive Finger" therapy! Quit pointing the finger of blame or else it will stay that way! :plbb

Have i invited you to come and see my place yet?

----------------------

I can imagine that if you stay on top of them and don't let those crazy little berries have their way, and you pulled up any babies and burned them, and if maybe your place doesn't welcome volunteers quite as eagerly as mine does, you might be alright. You might even love them.

And if you WANT them, i'll be sure to throw in several clusters of the berries with your package.

-----------------------

And also, do know, in the case of the chinese privets, if you DON'T prune them, they're hideous plants. Very messy looking. I have no experience with what happens if you DO prune them.

If it wasn't for my goats I would grow them. Heaven knows there are worse things to be afraid of. But I can't knowingly take the chance some bird will eat the berries, deposit the seeds in a goat pen (I have 3 goat pens) then one day I go out and find a dead goat or a very sick one because I didn't find the volunteer tree.... :/

Otherwise I would love to grow them. I really like the fast-growing idea!
