I think part of the invasion problem at my moms was due to her not being able to get down and pluck it in time, so it got a running start.

Ooh, don't plant that glechoma hederacea. That stuff will take over your lawn and all your flower beds. And it stinks when you pull it up. It is worse than snow on the mountain and vinca combined.

Being a vine, I keep thinking of them growing up a trellis, not down over a pot or planter, but indeed they are easy to grow, flower profusely, and are eye catching.

The reason I mentioned them is that one of our local nurseries had them in hanging pots and also some in regular pots. Since they are an annual, I'm thinking they'd be great in a large window box...would there be enough room for their root system in a window box, you think?

Potentilla/Duchesnia indica is another option. The flowers are yellow, but possibly smaller than you want. The plants look like strawberries, as do the fruits, which are also edible.
