I found this statement particularly interesting:

" a 2008 United Nations report concluded that organic farming can feed Africa and bring higher incomes to the poor, rural farmers there"

If organic farming methods can feed AFRICA, they can certainly feed the rest of us.

Evidentally, Monsanto doesn't have a "stake" in Africa.

It seems organic farming must be making an impact on big ag's pocketbook for them to even care.. I love the way 40 acres and a mule is called "extremist". Holy cow, spraying food with poison seems kind of extreme to me. Every time I read these articles I become more and more sure I want to be self-sufficient. Thanks for the link.

I am scared soon all super market foods will need to have a 'sterilizer' added so the seeds will be no good to those collecting them.

Heirloom become mega popular and organics is actually working small scale... and the US Ag screams foul?! I don't get it...

Something significant must have happened we haven't been aware of or notified of through mass media?!?!

Organic farming must really threaten them. It's more labor intensive, so I wonder why it's so scary? hhhmmmmmm..... :/
We should use our forum to help educate. We all know a few things about food that we should pass on to other Americans. Some truths probably directly hit big manufacturers, like Monsanto, and other facts have been forgotten by many families.
FOR INSTANCE, though I don't live in Florida, I DO know that oranges are ripe with green on the skin--they are painted orange to appeal to people who don't have a tree in their backyard. (I have relatives in FL.)
I DO know that fresh eggs can sit unrefridgerated for up to 90 days.
I DO know that feramones deter crop eating bugs but they don't make ME sick, like ALL other insecticides do.
I DO know that overgrown radishes grown right next to other crops will attract bugs that eat my vegetables.
I DO know that chemical fertilizers wash through the soil, but compost "grows" the soil.

Any more friends? :pop

But you all already knew how I felt about Monsanto :tongue

EXACTLY!!!

You can't corner an industry if everyone says "no thanks, I will do it myself rather than eat your garbage!"
