The whole cholesterol scare is another topic all together!
(Cholesterol does not cause heart disease. It never did. Saturated fat isn't dangerous to the body, it is protective.}
I have read this also. Margarine and vegetable oil are the bad guys, butter and fat is really fine. And whole milk is good for you although I have been drinking skim for so long I really like the taste of it.

Save your seeds! I have a friend who is saving every seed she can get. She doesn't want to eat vegetables and fruits with pesticide sprayed on them.

I don't see why people who don't have enough food to eat, yet have a small plot of land don't plant some vegetables. I drive for miles and miles and never see any gardens. Not too many people would go to bed hungry, if they would plant vegetables and fruits.

I have a devious plan to get people interested in growing their own food. Especially my own friends. :frow

I have sent them seed catalogs. Some of the catalogs are very attractive and that could get people interestedeven if they just put a tomato in a pot on their patio. The seed companies seem to encourage this. It does not cost you anything and the catalog is usually free. With the climate of today, I think it would be a mistake for companies to charge for their catalogs. The thinking on that would be a big mistake. :bee

I have been distributing bag of seeds among my friends. Little baggies with different types of seeds in a big baggie to as many people who are interested. I STILL have a lot of butternut squash and pie pumpkins. I also have some turban squash, and spaghetti squash seeds that will be given away at work.

If only half of the people I gave seeds to plant ONE THING, it will still be a lot of plants :D

If the economy does tank, I figured a steady supply of winter squash would be a great thing for people to have. It saved the pilgrim's behinds. It might save ours now!

If the merchants can't sell it, they won't stock it. If they do stock it, they'll be out of business.
It takes a while for them to actually go out of business. Depending on how profitable other departments might be, how well diversified they are, how much capital they have, their credit lines and holdings, whether they are publicly traded or privately owned, they can often continue to stock hoochie-woman clothes for a very, very long time. They can write off the unsold stock in their taxes, too, so they are using MY tax dollars to underwrite THEIR bad business choices. So much for capitalism and market efficiency!

I understand they diversify to reduce risk and all. The other way to reduce risk is to study the market demographics, maintain consistent stocks of basic items that are always in use, AND be careful in hiring and firing so you don't get stuck with too many idiots. Apparently this is no longer fashionable in large corporations though.
