Wake up to freezing house, heat went out 10 below zero. Repairman willnt get to me till 10 am. Hoping pipes dont freeze runnng water to help.
I just order a small space heater. We have hydrants all over our property and this is the first winter it has been totally up and running. We have an insulated water closet in a shed for the well pump and water tank. We have been keeping it warm with 2 lightbulbs but when it gets close to zero something has been freezing. Not enough for a pipe burst but enough for it to lose it's prime. We will only use it in extremes. So wonder full watering animals with close by water. Maybe have one on hand NYB for those emergencies. Hope it is nothing expensive.

I'm frozen too. No heat until the pipes in the ground thaw. So far nothing the Geo Guy has tried made a difference in thawing the pipes.
Going without sleep to keep the fireplace running. My Pollyanna moment -- at least I have electricity.

For 50 years I've said most of my attitude came from reading Pollyanna at too early an age. Today I heard there is something called "The Pollyanna Effect". Gee, I should'a trademarked that years ago.

Sorry to hear Red! Nyboy you are having a time of it!

Had to go to the grocery store yesterday. This is a three hour round trip I try to do as infrequently as possible, even though it's a most scenic drive through the hill country. I had to take a longer route to avoid the seven iced-over low water river crossings. I stopped in at the little country store halfway and there were foot-long icicles hanging from the old porch and snowflakes falling. I asked them inside who forgot to take down the Christmas decorations? That got a chuckle. It was so strange to see all the desert plants bent over from ice, trees looking flocked, and rusty barbed wire fence glistening in the sun with mini-me icicles hanging off the barbs. Even after I got into town there were flakes falling on blooming rosemary plants in the feed store parking lot. My DH said at school the kids were breaking icicles off the wheel wells of cars and running around showing them to each other. That's how strange this weather is for us. I know our temperatures aren't that low to most of you, but to us this is the equivalent of 20 below!!!
