after having one of the local grocery store chains up in arms over the ousting of their CEO this past summer they looked like that for weeks! if you aren't familiar with what took place just look for stories about Market Basket and Arthur T DeMoulas. we had a couple alternative grocery stores but the prices really couldn't be beat.

:yuckyuck I agree! Folks still do that here and we always laugh about it....what is it about eggs and milk that is so desperately needed in the event of snow? Emergency snow ice cream needs?

We are never without pasta and rice, never. If the power went off, I might lose lots of frozen veggies and would have to develop some skill smoking meat, quick. Biggest problems would be heat and water but the river is close ...

We also seldom have "major weather events" since an inch of precipitation in 24hrs would be unlikely, at any time of the year. No, we are just likely to dry up and blow away ...

@majorcatfish , it is good to be prepared for a disaster. :D I have heard about the food rush, never actually seen it. 6" is pretty much a non event here, just takes you longer to get home from work, so you don't bother stopping at the store. Now, seeing only 2 bottles of Hershey's syrup left, THAT would be reason to panic!

Haha Lavender! That's the first thing I noticed, OH NO! The chocolates almost gone?!

That sounds about right. We got that amount last night. Still got kids to school on time (more or less) Only 5 minutes later than normal day. I always have plenty of food in pantry and fridge to ride out most any storm. No need to make a food run.

people do the same here, supermarkets are crazy right before snow. Funny thing is almost every family has a 4 wheel drive car. so people back on road right after snow.

My son has been a manager for a big grocery chain for many years. In fact he starts a new job next week in a regular 9-5 job in a similar business. He always says "How many recipes are there for milk and bread that people need 4-6 gallons of milk and a half dozen loaves of bread?" He has had to sleep over at the store many a night in case the power goes out.
